I recently visited Hiker Cafe with high hopes, expecting a cozy and welcoming spot to grab a bite after a long hike. Unfortunately, my experience fell far short of my expectations. From the moment I stepped foot inside, it was clear that this cafe was not living up to its reputation.

First and foremost, the service was abysmal. The staff seemed disinterested and indifferent, providing minimal attention to customers. It took an eternity for someone to acknowledge my presence and take my order. Even then, the staff lacked basic knowledge about the menu and couldn't answer simple questions regarding ingredients or allergens.

As for the food, it was incredibly underwhelming. I ordered the tuna sandwich, expecting a hearty and delicious meal. However, what arrived at my table was a sad excuse for a sandwich. The bread was stale and tasted like it had been sitting out for hours. The fillings were sparse and lacked any flavor or creativity. It was a far cry from the nourishing and satisfying meal I had hoped for.

The ambiance of the cafe was another letdown. Instead of the cozy and rustic atmosphere I anticipated, I found myself surrounded by dated and worn-out furniture. The seating arrangements were uncomfortable, and the overall cleanliness of the place left much to be desired. It was not the kind of environment that encouraged relaxation or enjoyment.

To make matters worse, the prices at Hiker Cafe were exorbitant for the quality of food and service provided. I felt like I was paying a premium for subpar food and a lackluster experience. It's disheartening to spend hard-earned money on a meal that leaves you unsatisfied and disappointed.

Overall, my visit to Hiker Cafe was a regrettable experience. From the poor service to the unappetizing food and lackluster ambiance, there was hardly anything positive to take away. I would not recommend this cafe to anyone looking for a pleasant post-hiking meal. Save your time and money by exploring other dining...

This is a great location for anybody wanting to enjoy a walk, a play, a cycle... anything. The food is nice and the service is good. HOWEVER, the toilets leave a lot to be desired.

To say the men's toilets smelled like a fish mongers at the end of the day is an understatement. Maybe it is because it was over the Easter bank holiday and nothing gets done but come on - what does the extortionate parking rate actually pay for?

Come to think of it, the price you pay for the land train (which is driven at speed through groups of walkers, dogs, children, cyclists every 5 minutes) should surely go some way to getting things done around this lovely area. Bins left full of stinking rubbish and dog's sh** hardly attract people, which is a real shame as its a beautiful place to be.

Don't let my rant put you off, still go but be aware of the shortfalls you may come across that take the edge of a lovely day. I recommend the white chocolate and honeycomb in clotted cream ice-cream by...

The Hiker cafe at Hengusbury Head has a nice outside area to sit with family and dogs even though quite windy. No dogs allowed inside. This was my first visit and I was looking forward to a hot chocolate after a walk from Christchurch up to Hengusbury Head. The staff were very friendly. I ordered 2 hot chocolates with cream, pricey at £3.70 each. Sadly they were lukewarm and extremely weak. They tasted as if it had been made with hot water and not milk. There was plenty of cream and were dusted with chocolate powder so they did look good but sadly were most disappointing. This could easily be rectified by using more cocoa powder and hotter milk - and those making it should taste-test. It’s an easy drink to make! There were 11 of us in our party but no one else wanted to order anything after our drinks turned out to be so poor. Sorry.

Also there were no vegan options and one of our...

Love letter to the Hiker Cafe Apple Pie The apple pie in the Hiker Cafe is possibly one of the best foods on earth. I have never had an apple pie so full of apple and with such delicate sweet pastry. I don’t know how a dessert can feel so nostalgic and comforting when I don’t even know the person who makes it. Whoever you are, please never change the recipe. It is the perfect level of tartness and boy do you get a good portion! Served with clotted cream, I get this every time I am in Bournemouth and always greatly look forward to it. I am never disappointed and I couldn’t recommend anything more. The Hiker Cafe is a proper caff, the chips are piping hot, breakfast galore and the hot chocolate is also to die for! Hiker Cafe - please never change. The caffs in Bournemouth are disappearing and the classic feeling of Britishness caff food is also fleeting. Nothing beats this cafe!

After a good couple of hours walking it’s a good place to refresh and refuel before heading onward. We had the latte frappe and a slice of white chocolate topped brownie. Both were incredibly tasty. The place was really busy but the staff were working their socks off and keeping up with demand. It was a little bit pricey but that’s expected being the only refreshments in a tourist hotspot. If you sit outside like we did, don’t be surprised if you make some feathered friends. The local birds are very brave and will come right up to you for a crumb or two. The area is dog friendly but dogs are not permitted inside the cafe.

We didn’t actually get to try any of the food as it closes at 5:30pm. Which to be fair is posted everywhere, but did hit us by surprise. We did want to eat and the prices were competitive, however we couldn’t. Hengtisbury Head was still packed at 5:30pm during August. We would have fed the kids before going home, but we couldn’t as it was closed. Maybe should be open longer during peak season? Guess we are perhaps used to the overseas mentality of being open when the tourists are about and until late.
