I am a regular customer of the Holmbush Inn and would normally rate my experience as 4 star. However on Friday 27th May this was not the case. I will bullet point my issues.
We were a party of 4 and the order that arrived at the table was incorrect. We were told by the waitress the chef had made a mistake therefore all food was taken back to the kitchen.
When the meals did arrive I was absolutely amazed at the minute portion of my salmon dish compared to my friend who had the same dish. My dish consisted of 3 very small new potatoes, very small piece of salmon, 6 green beans and hollaindaise sauce cost £14.50. My friends was a slightly larger dish but again not good value at £14.50.
I was not given the opportunity to complain with regard to the portion control at the time because my friend who had chosen the Quiche from the special board which came with salad discovered what we believe to be a ladies hairpin (quite large) in her salad. We were naturally all extremely alarmed as she suffers with a throat condition and what the outcome may have been had she swallowed this metal pin. The waitress was most apologetic and said the salad was bought in in bulk already prepared and they would address the matter and she took the hairpin away to allow someone to do this. She was not charged for her meal.
We had already ordered sweets with our order so decided to go ahead. I was actually still hungry my main course being so small. We had ordered 3 fruit crumble and 1 sticky toffee pudding all served with ice cream. When the crumbles arrived we all looked at each other with utter surprise at the presentation and the extremely small portion of ice cream. The stewed fruit was presented on the plate with what looked like a pile of sand in one corner of the plate, this was the first time the fruit and crumb had met.(is this a new style presentation) accompanied by a weeny blob of ice cream. We called the waitress re the ice cream issue who apologised and said it was her fault it was the bottom of the ice cream tub and she struggled to get it out. She did bring a small portion of ice cream to the table but not enough for 3 of us. At this point we gave up, paid up and left feeling very disappointed with...
Sadly very disappointed this evening. My friend and I booked a table for 2. We ordered at the bar, and were the only two ordering at the time. I ordered first and paid and my friend ordered immediately after me and paid.
After I had ordered the lady explained there was a big party in and the food may take ten minutes longer than normal. We said, not to worry, that's fine.
The wait for food was actually not very long. My meal was brought out first. Ham, egg and chips. My first impression was, oh I thought I ordered the adults meal not the kids meal. Pitiful portion of chips. But it tasted really nice. £12.95 for the meal in the picture.
We waited a while and my friends meal didn't appear, so she told me to start eating. I did, very uncomfortably as it felt rude. I got almost half way through my meal and hers still wasn't there.
She decided to go to the bar and ask. The response was "did you order separately?", she said yes. "was it two seperate transactions?" yes. To which the guy mumbled well it'll come out seperately then!
No apology or, sorry for your wait. Very uninterested. Sorry, no I don't think it is normal. I go on lots of meals out with friends. We often order and pay for our own, yet our meals always come out together. It was ham, egg and chips. Not so hard to do.
My friend then found her chicken was only just about cooked. She decided she couldn't eat it. I said she could complain but as the guy was so dismissive about our meals being brought out, she didn't see the point as would probably be dismissed again.
We finished off and left as quickly as we could. Then just went back to her house for a dessert we picked up at the supermarket on the way home and a cup of tea.
We did see a sign in the pub which said closed for a period of time next week due mew management. Well I hope this isn't it, and this is the old management who are just winding down and can't be bothered. Hope the new management are much better.
Not been here for years because the parking is terrible. Sadly, it's likely to be...
Read moreRe visited the local pub after having an unsatisfactory meal from them 2 week s ago,i then decided to do a review on a survey on their web page. On revisiting the pub I had 1 beer and a go on the fruit machine I won some money which made me really happy and went to the bar to cash up and leave, I got to the bar and the lady who was serving was the lady who dealt with the unsatisfactory food previously so I asked for to change the pounds to notes she said thats fine went to the otherside and started the till transaction while she was doing this what i presume to be a friend on the other side of the bar they were laughing together this friend then stared to stare at me. She came back and gave me my money and said i know you have a drink allready but this is your last one your barred. I was suprised and said how can you bar someone after 2 weeks and not tell them about it, when the problem was from when the meal was served (that i did not eat) should you not of told me then you even agreed fault and gave me a full refund and then i had a couple of beers after as well and you still did not tell me then at any point ! So after taking my money and hearing that, i said can i have the details of your area manger and make an official complaint she said to me back use the same details as i did before your barred because you complained !!!
