This is an unassuming place. But wait till you go in. There's on-road parking, and it's located at the end of the street just at the bend. It had outside seating as well overlooking the Humber River. Inside it very quaint, with pictures and usual pub decor. Several large screens are showing sport, and thoughtfully, the volume is off. Background music was playing, and everyone was cheerful. Now, the best bit was the food. There's a small menue and specials board. This means that what they do, they do extremely well. So three of us visited my wife & I plus her daughter. Kim had the Thai salmon, wife & I the roast dinner. A medium and large. Well, when it turned up, we were surprised at the size. They were huge. There is a choice of three meats, and we both had beef. The cuts of meat were very large and thick. Cooked beautifully. Tender and soft. We got a bowl of veg, then another. The roast potatoes were proper, not steamed. A proper Yorkshire pudding, lashings of thick meaty gravy. The daughter had peas and rice plus a salad with her salmon and thoroughly enjoyed it. We had so much food that we had to leave a bit. Next time, we will order a small and a medium instead. Fantastic food, the staff also are great as is the owner, Trev. What a great guy. They have some very nice wine, ciders including a blood orange one which was nice and a couple of Ales on tap. Lots of people were eating and our neighbours go all the time. Testament to the quality (they all have large and puddings). We've had roast dinners in lots of laces, the Railway Inn, Hornsea garden centre, etc, and for the quality, quantity, and price, this place can't be beaten. A shout out to Trev's daughter and her wife, who are the cooks. Absolutely fantastic ladies. We will be back. Oh, there's lots of seating in the main bar area and a large side room, and they cater...
Read moreBeen a few times for a meal and the food and service has been excellent, so as a treat me and mum decided to go today. Mum had her usual fish and chips, but instead of what i usual order from Humber Tarverns menu I decided to have something different from the menu. I ordered Chicken Sizzler in sweet chilli sauce along the optio, half chips, half rice. I was so looking forward to it. A member of staff brought it out and it wasn't so much of a sizzler but a cloud of smoke coming from it, it was that bad even the member of staff had to step back as the smoke was going in her face. It smelt as though it was burning so I quickly spooned the food off the cast iron dish onto my plate, but I couldn't take it all off as half had burnt onto the dish. I didn't want to complain so I tried to eat it while picking out all the burnt meat and veg off, I got so far through and I couldn't stand the taste or smell of it anymore. When a staff member came back to the restaurant I explained that the food was burnt and although I tried to eat it I couldn't stand the taste or smell anymore. Her response was well it is a sizzler. I explained that I've had sizzlers exactly like this before and they've never arrived burnt, she said she'd speak to them in the kitchen. Her next response was that it was because of the sweet chilli sauce that it burnt. Again I told her I've had this meal before a number of times at different places and it's never come out to the table burnt. She just didn't want to know. I wasn't looking for a refund, I just wanted it replacing and an apology but didn't get either. So we asked for the bill, we did get asked if we wanted pudding though, the answer was NO. We paid and left very disappointed and me...
Read moreMyself and my husband have just had our lunch here and it won't be the last time. We both opted for the Black Pudding and Garlic Mushroom starter which was gorgeous and nicely presented. For main course my husband had turkey and beef roast dinner with vegetables which my husband said was very nice, whilst I opted for the dressed crab salad. The crab was very tasty and obviously fresh and the salad had a lot of variety and was lovely and fresh too. Unfortunately my eyes were bigger than my belly and I had to admit defeat and couldn't finish all of my main course of which there was plenty so no dessert for me, my husband, however, managed to fit in Chocolate Fudge Sundae which he really enjoyed, so definitely no complaints from us. The staff, including the manager and waiting staff were friendly and courteous and obviously care about their customers. The regulars were also friendly and we were made to feel very welcome. We will definitely be back. Thanks for an...
