My friend has been very unwell for months and this was her first day out since early in the year. We decided to go for a nice lunch. We both ordered the same toasties. Mozzarella and sundried tomatoes with an Italian chilli oil. We waited for a long time to be served after placing our order. Our food eventually came and my friend couldn't tolerate the chilli oil in her sandwich which was very hot. My sandwich was the same but my tolerance to chilli is quite high. I spoke to the server and I asked if my friend could exchange for something else. She said she would speak to the Manager. The server came through the area where we were sitting, we called her over to reorder another dish for my friend. It got very unpleasant after that. She said that both sandwiches were the same and how come I was eating mine. I told her that I can tolerate heat. Then the Manager got involved and she said we would have to pay again for a replacement. It was so humiliating for my friend, who is also visually impaired. we refused to pay for another sandwich. The server kept on at my friend about how I didn't have a problem with my food. She was very rude. The manager then agreed to replace the sandwich at no extra charge. The whole afternoon was ruined. My friend was very upset over the whole incident, especially as she hadn't been out of her home for months. Any other establishment would have just apologised and offered a replacement meal without all the fuss. Yes, it did state chilli oil on the menu, but it should also state how hot this chilli oil is. Not everyone can tolerate the same heat. Doubt if we...
Read moreA combination of small issues made breakfast a disappointment, more effort was put into its appearance than it's taste, and it was only saved by lashings of the most delightful Jeyes Ketchup.
It started when the toast was delivered to our table a good 5 minutes before the actual breakfast, so although it was well toasted with lashings of butter it was cold by the time we had food. Then the breakfast arrived; Each component of breakfast was a different temperature, the bacon was quite well cooked but cold, and sat in the water that had come out of it as it was cooked. The beans were luke warm in a tiny bowl on the plate. The scrambled egg had clearly been cooked in a microwave and was over cooked and nuclear hot. The tomatoes were quite nice but needed seasoning and I really don't know how they'd cooked the mushrooms to make them grey and lifeless as if from a tin, again lacking seasoning. The sausage was well cooked, but not of very high quality. Hash brown is usually nice to see with breakfast, but on this occasion it was tough and not crispy. So yeah overall it was a disappointment and using a microwave (we heard it ping multiple times) is a crime against a fry up.
The staff were friendly, but not the most efficient, and I think the breakfast quality explains the almost empty dining room on a Saturday morning.
We did have a nice coffee, and when we left we bought cake to take away which was pleasant, but I'm sure we were overcharged for it.
I wouldn't return for breakfast, but maybe for...
Read moreI have been coming here on a fairly regular basis for the past year, and although the staff are friendly and polite, the service has always remained very slow. This isn't a very large establishment, 10 tables max. and I have never found it at full capacity, so no reason for waiting so long for drinks and food each time. On my last visit, on 23rd April, my husband and myself took ourselves off for lunch here, and ordered our usual hot drinks and a jacket potato each. It took them 15 mins to advise us that they didn't have any potatoes left and would we like to order something else, so we ordered a toasted sandwich each, we hadn't received our drinks at this stage, 5 mins later drinks arrived. 45 mins after our arrival our food finally arrived, both toasties were wrong, brown bread instead of white, so we said these were not what we ordered and the lady took them back saying our correct lunch will be with us in a few minutes! At this time we had been in the establishment an hour waiting for toasted sandwiches so we asked for our money back, at this time there were only 3 other tables occupied, so no excuse what-so-ever for such shoddy service. I have given this place chance after chance, but I have to say this was the last straw and we will not be returning....
