The Old Swan — Restaurant in England

So I decided to take my partner and son here for the first time for an early dinner after our dog walk, we live in Northampton so I did drive to earls barton to go here today. We arrived and there was no-one outside which was lovely as it was nice and peaceful and we thought great no waiting on service ect. After sitting there for 15 minutes and no sign of staff members i decided to go to the bar to place our order. I ordered 3 meals, 2 waters and a soda. I made it very clear when ordering what we wanted and all seemed fine so i paid the bill and returned to the table. The food came out in a good time but only two meals arrived so i thought i would wait as maybe should couldn't carry all 3 at once or it was the last to come out so i was happy to wait. I waited 10 minutes and still nothing came out and by this point my partner and son where almost finished eating so i went back to the bar and asked where my meal was and the girl said she thought she put mine through the system but upon checking she only put through 2 of the meals and missed mine. So she put in my missing meal into the system and then asked me for payment for the 3rd meal, by this point i was really wanted to just leave but im pregnant and was starving after a long shift at work so i went back to the table to get my card and returned to pay which on its own was not great when i just wanted to sit down not run back and forth to the bar to sort out my order. I paid for my 3rd meal which came out quickly but i was very upset by the service how there was no real apology considering i had to eat separate from my family. There was no form of compensation for the overall lack of customer service you would have thought considering we were the only 3 people eating at the time they would have got our order correct and even if they didn't i would have hoped the staff would have been competent enough to understand the simple gesture of a complimentary meal or dessert in a situation like this. Very pretty little pub when you go through the front door Through to the rear of the pub where we ate it wasn't quite as nice, little dissapinted when we walked through we were expecting the same sort of decor and cozyness. The food was very nice, good variety on the menu the portions were of a good size and well presented. . It wasn't particularly busy when we arrived, the food service was slow, we did have a party of 8 but still there was plenty of staff working. The bar staff were really friendly. The reason we gave it 4 stars and not 5 was the attitude of one of the waiting staff regarding a dessert we ordered. The menu says toffee waffle and rum pudding so we were expecting a waffle but what came out was a sponge. We did challenge this with the waitress but her answer was, well it is a pudding!! We were expecting a more educated and professional answer. Maybe an offer to change it! As the person who ordered it has a dietary problem they couldn't eat it but still had to pay for it. Disappointed /let down! having decided to look for a venue to go to for Christmas dinner we found The Old Swan and decided to try it out over several visits also making contact about there plans for Christmas day, we thought after several more visits that we had found the place we wanted our family and possibly also to take some of our friends along, that this was the place we wanted to go to,so we asked on every visit if all was Ok with the plans for Christmas and were told all was fine.But as time moved on and we could not find any sign of a menu being posted where as others were now on line we contacted The Old Swan you can not imagine our surprise at being told they were now not opening and every but us had been phoned and told ! Anyway now feeling totally disappointed we are now faced with the task of sourcing another venue which at this time close to the big day is not proving to be a easy task as well as not having tried them out how do we know they will be any good so not a very good start to our festive season so feeling let down and...
