My daughter booked for 18 of us for my granddaughters 18 th for sept 1st a family meal, she rang to see if we could bring her cake balloons and banners for the room in the afternoon No problem they said.when we arrived my daughter checked this and was told they would have to speak to the manager who informed us we don’t usually allow but would this once and also we would have to leave at 9 pm as they had to set room up for breakfast next day.i was flabbergasted and interrupted politely saying that’s ridiculous 2 hrs to eat our meals which I presume was manager a lady gave my such a dirty look looking me up and down saying I’m not talking to you excuse me I said if we hadn’t paid a none refundable deposit we would be going elsewhere I asked what time they close which she replied ten usually the website states 11 Her attitude was absolutely awful my daughter was furious and told her we weren’t told this when booked and her communication with staff needs to improve It really put a o rating on the service especially by if it was the manger and I intend to complain to someone higher I must add we couldn’t fault our meals but refused to leave a tip which we usually do and when we did leave at 10 30pm there was a party of about 8 ladies still enjoying themselves not getting asked to leave at 9 We won’t be returning for a family get together due to the attitude of the manager she needs tuition dealing with customers and communication with staff as one says one thing another something else We sat down just after 7 after waiting for starters and finishing them we didn’t get our mains till gone 8 30 so would have had to choke our meals down and have no dessert to vacate the room at 9 never heard anything like it what planet they on do they not want custom I might add the meals alone cost over £300 for all of us that was without drinks which was a lot for 18 of us they really didn’t deserve our custom and wish could have gone...

Having sat down for 10, maybe 15 minutes, the food arrived, I myself prefer to sit, chat, peruse the menu and then order.||I ordered the14oz Gammon, with Salt and Pepper Chips and Pepper Corn Sauce, different yes, but I do like pepper corn sauce. What arrived was standard chips and no sauce, yes the chips were chunky, delicious and homemade, but not Salt n Pepper, I highlighted this to the lady who served us, she took them away and within a minute my plate arrived to see the chips were the same but what appeared to be salt n pepper on them !, I know the difference between them, however, I let it go, didn’t want to embarrass the rest of the table, I waited a short while and still no pepper corn sauce, so I asked the question, they looked into it, 5 plus minutes passed by, half way through my meal, the sauce arrived in a small jug, what poured out was lukewarm cream with pepper corns added, no pepper bite, this would have been the end of my patience but I held my calm.||I ordered the Apple Crumble Cheese cake, looked lovely but had no taste, it was solid in texture as if unflavoured gelatin had been added.||The Gammon was lovely, the chips were delicious, homemade, the Pepper Corn sauce was poor and the Cheesecake was a total let down.||I have eaten at The King Alfred a few times previous and the food was lovely, more or less the same dish I pre-ordered, I would guess a new chef had arrived and I guess needs...
