La Bella Calabria at 100 Parkside Dr, Houghton Regis, is an absolute gem for those seeking authentic Italian cuisine with a warm and welcoming atmosphere. We recently celebrated a friend’s birthday here, and it turned out to be a delightful experience that exceeded all expectations.

From the moment we walked in, the ambiance felt cozy and inviting, with a touch of rustic Italian charm. The staff were exceptionally friendly, attentive, and accommodating, making sure everything was perfect for our celebration. They even went the extra mile to add a special touch for the birthday, which made our evening feel extra memorable.

The food was outstanding—every dish we tried was packed with flavor and prepared with evident care and fresh ingredients. The menu offered a variety of options, from classic Italian staples like pasta and pizza to more refined dishes. The lasagna was perfectly layered with rich, savory sauce, and the seafood risotto was bursting with freshness. The pizzas were authentic, with a thin, crispy crust and generous toppings. We came in on Mother's Day and were swiftly sat down and had our drinks ordered, which was very fast service (although the drinks were very expensive!). After a few minutes we got our drinks and then we gave our food orders; Pollo Voldestana, Cannelloni Calebrese, Chef's Special Grande Ravioli, and Risotto con Pollo e Funghi. It was only a short wait for food, which was a nice surprise as it was very packed, we were expecting a much longer wait. All of the dishes were hot and tasty except for the Risotto. It was presented perfectly, Sprinkled with parmesan and coriander. However, to my surprise, it was not hot at all, lukewarm in the middle. The mushrooms were extremely soggy (I am aware they are soaked in white wine, but they should be cooked afterwards which gets rid of the sogginess) and raw. The chicken chunks however were very juicy and flavourful. The sauce itself was perfect, very well seasoned, and the perfect consistency, but I was let down by the rice also, which was unfortunately very hard and crunchy. I would have most likely asked for it to be cooked a bit more on a normal day, but as the waiters were very busy with the packed mother's day restaurant, I did not want to bother them with taking food back, so instead I shared some of the other food, which was all tremendously good. I do reccomend coming here, but I don't reccommend the risottos at the moment. I would reccommend the Grande Ravioli, it was beautiful. I will be coming back again to try some other dishes, and I highly look forward to it. I may even try the risotto again, as this could have been a one off experience. 4/5 stars,...
