My husband and I had 4 nights in a twin bedded ensuite room with a shower. The room was clean on arrival and had a kettle, small hanging space for clothes plus USB points for charging electronic devices. We had our own private space outside with wooden decking and a bench and 2 chairs to sit on. There were also 2 fold up chairs in our room which could be used in the room or taken outside. There is a shared kitchen with 2 kettles, 2 microwaves, an oven and a toaster plus plenty of crockery and cutlery. There is plenty of seating to eat your breakfast or meals in the kitchen plus a TV too. The kitchen we found was a very sociable space as other holiday makers were happy to chat with you and quite a few we met had stayed at the Lodge before. The Lodge has a freezer full of home made meals made by them which are very reasonably priced and can be cooked in the microwave from frozen. We had their chicken and mango curry one day and a lamb hot pot on another. Both of these meals were excellent and good sized portions. You can also buy other items at the Lodge in the reception area such as cereal, jam, milk, chocolate, teabags, coffee etc. There is also a cafe at the Lodge which is open during the day from 10am - 4pm. There is a small laundry room too should you wish to do any washing. The staff who work at the hostel and cafe are very friendly and helpful if you have any queries. We would definitely...
Read moreWe thoroughly enjoyed our 4 night stay at Longstone Lodge. The rooms are simple and clean with well-functioning bathrooms. Beds are comfortable. It was convenient having a mini-frig and hot pot in our room. We enjoyed sitting on our deck in the late afternoon after a busy day of exploring. The shared kitchen works well for breakfast and was never too busy or crowded, and a good place to sit for a meal. There is a good assortment of groceries available at reception if you haven’t had the opportunity to stop at the grocery store on the way in (breakfast foods and even some homemade shepherd’s pie, chili, veg chili, etc. to microwave, and wine and beer). The kitchen is well organized with a bin for food storage for each room and supplies are available to label food stored in the refrigerator and freezer. The cafe serves delicious lunches, snacks and amazing cakes from about 10 to 4 PM. The lodge is a 20-25 min walk from town and if you don’t feel like walking and time it right, there’s a community bus that stops near the lodge entrance, or taxis for hire. The staff were absolutely delightful, welcoming and helpful throughout our stay. Finally, the grounds are lovely with a nice play area for children and families, and a large garden, tended by volunteers, with many benches to rest and relax. We would happily return to...
