Absolutely awful. My partner and I are currently visiting cornwall for a holiday. After reading very good reviews for the masons arms we decided to try it. To start with we were promptly sat at our table which I reserved that day. We were asked straight away what we would like to drink, so we kindly asked for a few minutes to decide after looking at the menu. The lady said she would be back in a minute to take our order. 20 minutes past and still no one came to take my order. I then decided to go to the bar and order our drinks and our meals at the same time, we did not want to wait any longer. 2 other tables followed me as they were in the same situation, the bar lady served me and then told the younger girl to go serve the others at their tables. I then took our drinks back (which were very nice) and we waited about 20 minutes for our food. The one table which didn't have their drinks still didn't have them after the younger one took their order the same time as me. I had the lasagne which was very basic and lacked flavour, the garlic bread it came with was litterly 'garlic bread'. It came with a mountain of salad. My partner had the chicken the curry which was the final straw. The bowl as seen in the picture was filled with water. The photo is after I drained alot of it onto a plate. I called the young waitress over and explained the problem and she did not know what to say. She asked me what I wanted her to do and i asked if we have another one will it be the same and she replied yes probably. I then asked for the manager and told her the issue and straight away she said it was very watery. The shef followed the woman and said it is the way she cooks the curry and she doesn't add and thickener to it which is why it is watery. She offered to make us something else if 'we' didn't like the way she cooks it. This was patronising and we kept it. My partner only ate half of this curry because of the water. It had clearly been microwaved which caused the water. When the plates were finally collected we asked for the young girl for the bill. We waited 10 minutes and nothing. The table next to us then asked the lady for their bill which was brought straight away. They complained that their sausages were raw and the steak was very fatty. They asked for their drinks to be taken off and the lady sorted it for them. Another young girl then came and asked us if we wanted desserts even though we were still waiting for the bill. I asked her as well and still nothing. I finely asked the older lady for the bill which she brought over straight away. She did not take anything off our bill and did not resolve any of our issues tonight. Extreamly disappointed and would...
Read moreI come here with my family every time I visit Cornwall on holiday since about 4 years. We use to spend our holidays in Launceston (Trenannick Cottages) and have to come here at least 2-3 times while staying at Trennanick. Across the street there's a lovely children's playground sourounded by a nice park. A little bit up the street there's free parking. The host Jo is lovely and welcoming. One day we stepped in short after lunch time. It was a Sunday and I basically was up to one of their phantastic roasts. The whole family was hungry but Jo told us that the kitchen has been closed a bit earlier that day since her chef was feeling sick and she sent her home. We had just accepted that we won't get lunch here and were about to finish our drinks (I really like Korev!!!) when she suddenly showed up serving us freshly made chips, some salad and some warm snacks, just to ensure that we don't have to leave hungry. Food quality is really good. Pub is packed full with stuff, but this is what makes it unique and special. No one - not even Jo - cared that our little ones walked through the entire pub and said hello to other guests or the staff, although our daughter don't know other words in english then "Hi" and "My name is". One day a little local girl (not sure if it was Jo's niece) approached our daughter while we're waiting at the bar to place our order and started to play with her...very good. Our daughter was entertaint and also took an abiding memory home. It's a shame that this pub is 1000km from home...otherwise we would for sure come in at least once a week. Really looking forward to our next...
Read moreFor those looking for gleaming walls and celeb chef atmosphere - go elsewhere. For those looking for character, a story in every view; honest, tasty, well cooked food of enormous proportions, from an equally enormous menu; staff and clientele who are ready to spend an hour just making one feel welcome, or exchanging news and views, then you've come to the right place. It is an unique experience that you will either love or loathe. We loved it, spending something like 4 hours in the bar and later the restaurant. Yes, it was winter and it was chilly in the restaurant. Yes, we waited a fair old time for our meals. But it was easily worth it. The food was excellent, the landlady Jo, a character as great as her own creation. She even later sat with us and explained a possible new adventure for herself, over offers of free mulled wine. Which brings me to the one caveat - Jo leaves The Mason Arms in late Feb 2018. So get in quick. Nevertheless, we were told the place will continue as usual after she leaves, so perhaps you could be one of the first to review this extraordinary place in...
