A Hidden Gem in Great Ayton – The Persian Tea Room

Tucked away in the charming village of Great Ayton, the Persian Tea Room is an absolute delight – an authentic , flavourful escape that feels like stepping into another world.

From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted with a friendly , calming atmosphere and the most beautiful spread of Middle Eastern-inspired treats. The sun-dried tomato hummus is a standout – rich, savoury, and perfectly balanced, especially when paired with their warm, fluffy flatbreads. The pickled vegetables on the side are vibrant, tangy, and just the right amount of sharp to cut through the richness of the hummus.

Of course, no visit is complete without something sweet – and the Persian Tea Room delivers in the most indulgent way. The Turkish delight is fragrant and melt-in-the-mouth, the baklava is perfectly crisp with that signature syrupy sweetness, and the lemon cake is a light, zesty dream that rounds off the experience beautifully. Even our labradoodle had an array of signature treats to munch on 🐾 Every bite feels made with care and intention. If you’re ever near Great Ayton, treat yourself – this place is...

In the season when sunflowers bloom in full glory, after wandering through the nearby golden fields, I stopped by the charming village of Great Ayton for a short rest.

There, I discovered Pomegranate Persian Tea Room, a lovely place infused with rich Middle Eastern character. The walls are adorned with artistic Persian calligraphy, their meanings lingering softly in the air. Every corner of the tea room is decorated with Persian carpets and handcrafted ornaments, creating a warm, soulful atmosphere.

The menu offers a delightful crossover of British and Middle Eastern flavours — from Turkish sweets to traditional Iranian cakes. On our visit, we ordered Baklava with ice cream. The layers of flaky pastry soaked in pistachio syrup, paired with cake and vanilla ice cream, were absolutely delicious — a memorable treat.

Although my visit was brief, I truly loved this little gem of a tea room — perhaps because of my fondness for Middle Eastern culture. I’ll definitely return when I...

Lovely little café/restaurant hidden off the main road in great ayton, staff were really lovely/service was 10/10 and I had literally the best shawarma I've ever had in the UK there. Last time I had a shawarma that good was in Turkey about 15 years ago. Pricing is fine, about what you'd expect from what sems to be a small family run eatery! Really nice vibe to the place, loved the outdoor area, you could sit inside, outside in the shade, or outside in the sun and the older lady who seemed to be running things there that day had a big smile on her face the whole time we were there. Was referred to the place by my cousin and boy she did well! Cannot wait to go back! Would love to try something else but the chicken shawarma was just SO GOOD I think I'll end up just getting that again! 😋 10/10
