Would be 2star due to positives: jug of water (great move, others take note!) and some starters tasty.
But 1 star for how we were made to feel on Sunday "all you can eat". When you choose a (cheap) "all you can eat" , you're not expecting the best food but you want the comfort of knowing you can have what you want without question, without thinking about your wallet, and you'll leave satisfied. That is the biggest draw for a place like this but instead the experience was awful. We were shouted at for ordering "too much", and that ruined the whole experience as I was on edge all evening. And as it happened apart from the starters the meals that did turn up were very poor to the point of inedible.
Our first hint that this may happen is when the guys to our left were seemingly told off for ordering "too much" and told to reduce their order. I found that a bit odd, but I didn't think much of it. Then it was our turn to order and we asked for a small taster of most of the things on the starter list, so we may then order more of what we liked. Instead we got a small plate of a select few of the things and lots were missed off. After that we felt rushed into ordering the main course. I asked for more starters because we didn't get all we asked for, and, well, it's an "all you can eat" so I want more starter, especially the ones we didn't get. At that point I got told "No! you are ordering too much" just like the guys next to us. I thought ok no problem I'll just order a couple of things. Despite this the waiter was still seemingly angry and again said "this is too much!" and then said quite threateningly "if there is anything you don't eat you will be charged for it!"
It's fine in AYCEs to be asked to order a few at a time, and normal to threaten to charge for food you don't eat (I've never seen it implemented, mind), to stop being taking the mick and wasting food whether it's a sign on the wall or on the menu, or I'm informed (politely) verbally when being seated I don't mind. But the way this was shouted at us when they didn't like us ordering was just a blatant "don't order too much" threat as they were clearly unhappy we weren't having our very small starter and heading straight for a main. Totally unacceptable. It worked, as despite wanting more of the starters I couldn't be bothered with the hassle and want straight for mains.
And the mains here completely vindicated my wish to have more starter. They are AWFUL. My wife's and my dishes were slightly different coloured slop of what was basically a sugar paste. Unlike any Indian food, even the sugary westernised stuff. Even my wife who's a relative sugar junkie couldn't eat it.. The extra stress of having been shouted at that we would be charged for anything uneaten made it even more unpleasant.
Service - woeful. Our naans never turned up, which meant my poor wife had to drink through the sugary slop like a soup as she was hungry. We asked several times and they still didn't come. Eventually a naan turned up after another request but by that point my wife had had enough and didn't want to eat anything more. We were also offered other peoples' food by mistake and there were many different waiters about ready to take our orders which we'd just given to someone else. Just chaotic.
£3.95 for still water (but fair play they did give tap on demand). Trying to dupe you into the classic trick of ordering papadoms when seated, which aren't on the AYCE menu.
In summary an 'all you can eat' allegedly where they really don't like you eating all you want, and desperately want you to be good and just have a little bit of starter and a main, hoping you'll spend more on drinks and popadoms etc... with ridiculously sugary mains.
If they don't like "all you can eat" they should just not bother calling it that. Call it a set menu or something. Or just charge more.
Go if you like sugary mains and have a small appetite. DON'T bother if you want an "all you can eat" experience of...
Read moreReview for Sunday All You Can Eat Buffet.
Summary: unfortunately not an overall positive experience. Curries far too sugary, orders wrong, and items forgotten and attitude of some staff abrupt.
Our food order was wrong/forgotten items - I ordred a curry and Nan. No Nan turned up despite asking again. Eating a curry without a bread or rice isn't particularly nice, especially when the sauce is just far too sweet.
Both Masala and Passanda were too sugary to eat. And when I say too sugary, I mean they were sweeter than a desert and were inedible. I also think the meats were in the wrong dishes but it was hard to tell as both sauces tasted nothing like I have tasted before.
Regarding the service, we were not asked if we were enjoying our meal or if we required anything else. We were also made to feel that we couldn't order what we wanted as starters as "we'd have to pay for any uneaten food," baring in mind the starter portions are tiny, we know our appetites and the buffet is advertised as "all you can eat." A sign on the wall or note about food waste on the menu would be a less aggressive way of making this known to customers. No one intentionally wants to waste food.
I am currently lying awake in bed with some strange sugar hang over which I can only attribute to the meal.
Drinks are also expensive and extras, such as popadoms, are charged for without any indication of the price on the menu.
On the positive side, the price is good, The meat is a good quality, tender and succulent, food service is pretty speedy and we were given a jug of water for our table. The decor is interesting and the restaurant and toilets appear clean.
Had the experience been on par with other Indian buffets, I'd have awarded more stars. Perhaps we were just unlucky as this restaurant seems popular and well recommended, but this unfortunate first time experience means that I doubt we will...
Read moreThis review is about Rajmoni Restaurant in Lower Early , Reading. I went there with my family for a buffet lunch. We had a very bad experience, both in terms of food quality and customer service.
Food - Food was really pathetic, nothing was really authentic Indian. Each dish, including bread ( Nan etc) was very sweet. If you are really after Indian food, I would say avoid this place.
Customer service - Horrible... If you are going there with an infant, make sure you carry your own high chair for the infant. They don't provide high chair. So this is not a infant friendly place. Staff was very rude, when I asked for a high chair, he asked my why do we need a high chair, we should manage the child in the buggy. In general staff was rude through out the period while we were there. Billing - They over billed us quietly in the final bill. They overcharged 10% on every adult buffet and 30% on child buffet. So looks like they are not afraid of cheating their customer financially. I just wanted to get out of that place as quickly as possible, I didn't bother disputing the bill. However I do have receipt as a proof of overcharging.
My advise is avoid this restaurant , if you don't want to...
