My husband and I first visited this restaurant in June 2018 for a dinner date. The ambience, food, drink and service was second to none and truly outstanding. We left feeling extremely happy and our tip to the staff reflected our satisfaction. I then visited a couple of weeks later with a friend and again, service and food was excellent. It is a noisy space with open kitchen and large open dining area with little soundproofing but you can get over that as everything else was so good.
Unfortunately, I had a terrible experience at San Lorenzo today Saturday 14th July. I visited with my husband and Brother who was looking for a nice restaurant for his upcoming birthday in August. We arrived for lunch and my husband and I chose the unlimited pizza and prosecco meal deal whilst my brother ordered a la carte. Again the food was excellent. The service generally very good (we were left waiting for a dessert menu for 20 minutes). When I asked again for dessert menu, this was provided by our waiter promptly (the blonde girl I had asked previously was not our usual waiter and had clearly forgotten). We then ordered our desserts and were sat chatting and waiting when the Maitre’d approached our table and told us we had gone over our allocated time and had to leave. I was completely appalled at his lack of courtesy ( he simply said it as per written here, without apology or explanation). I explained that we had just ordered dessert and were waiting for it and what did he mean. He said you only get 2 hours when on the pizza deal and our time was up (this was literally on the dot and bearing in mind we had waited 20 mins for a dessert menu). He said he needed the table and we could go and sit downstairs in the bar to have our desserts. I was completely aghast and insulted so I cancelled the desserts, paid the bill (no tip) and left. I had a word with the manager when I got downstairs as I was so appalled at the lack of respect and also because one third of our party was eating a la carte. Also, three other tables had been seated before us and were still eating on the pizza and prosecco deal so it felt as though we had been singled out, completely unfairly. I explained what had happened to the manager and he offered me free drinks the next time I visited.
I can categorically state that I will not be setting foot in San Lorenzo again whilst that member of staff still works there - his arrogance and rude attitude has lost a customer (and a repeat one at that).
Extremely disappointed but would rather spend more money travelling to an Italian restaurant in another town than give this place my time and money again.
It was good, if you like good food in a nice environment it’s for you...but don’t...
Read moreHad the Sunday Feast to celebrate a friend's Birthday. Food was good, the atmosphere was vibrant, and if you enjoy lobster, crab and oysters, then it's definitely worth it. However, our experience was spoilt by the so-called Reservations Manager. When we entered the restaurant, we didn't receive the warm welcome you'd expect and it was quite clear she looked pretty stressed out. We were told when reserving the table a few weeks back that our party of 13 would be split into 2 tables with no guarantee that the tables would be close to one another. We had no issue with this. The Reservation Manager called up the first 8 guests (including me) to the table, whilst the remaining 5 stayed in the bar area downstairs. When settling into my seat, we noticed the table next to ours, which sat upto 6 people, was vacant, albeit it hadnt been cleaned up from the previous diners. Nevertheless, we assumed the vacant table would be assigned to the remaining 5 guests so that our Birthday group could dine together in close proximity. When we suggested this to the Reservations Manager, she ignored our request / suggestion and became very defensive. She kept reiterating that we had been told prior that the tables would be seperate. I am unsure she understood my viewpoint. Instead, she assigned the table next to ours to another group of 6 people. Our remaining 5 guests were then seated on a table at the complete opposite end of the restaurant to where we were sat. We again approached the Reservations Manager to suggest whether the 2 tables could be switched. The answer we got was that we would have to arrange this ourselves; it was obvious she didn't want to help us in any way. She then proceeded in going downstairs to locate our friend who made the booking, and told him to tell the ladies upstairs to "stop attacking her". I never realised that making a suggestion to sit the remaining guests near to our table constituted an attack. I have never been accused of attacking anyone and this got me very upset. I asked the waiter to get the Restaurant Manager, but this wasn't forthcoming either. We was able to finally speak to the Restaurant Manager at the end of our meal. When I told her of my experience, she was clearly gobsmacked and astounded by the lack of common sense shown by the staff. The Restaurant Manager was apologetic and sympathetic with our situation and did offer us a couple of bottles of wine, however this doesn't take away the fact that having looked forward to this meal for weeks, that it ended up being spoilt by the incompetence and ignorance of the Reservations Manager. Would I recommend this restaurant to anyone? NO!!! Unless they improve their...
Read moreA Disastrous 50th Birthday Celebration
We visited this restaurant to celebrate a 50th birthday, expecting a special evening, but unfortunately, it was a complete disaster. From start to finish, we felt ignored and unimportant, and the evening was utterly ruined.
Firstly, we had to wait two hours for our food. During that time, we had to help ourselves to menus at the table as no one came to attend to us. People who arrived well after us were served their meals while we sat waiting, baffled and increasingly frustrated. We were informed the “kitchen was overwhelmed”. My parents, who are in their 80s, were appalled at the service—or lack thereof. Watching them sit there hungry and uncomfortable was heartbreaking. It was rubbish.
Our waiter, Stevie, was lovely and did his best and was apologetic, but it was really unfair that he was left to deal with this mess on his own. Where was the management? Nobody came to apologise or offer any real explanation for the unacceptable delay. Or at least give us some bread?!!
By the time the main courses finally arrived, it was almost 10.30 pm, and any enjoyment of the evening was long gone. Although the food itself was good, it was far too late for us to appreciate it. After our meal, we were given a bottle of Prosecco as an apology, but none of us even drink Prosecco so it was barely touched! It would have been far more considerate to offer a drink of our choice, at the very least. And then a plate of cakes and a sparkler. It felt very much like an after thought and the staff started to make a fuss right before we got the bill!
We brought a birthday cake with us, but by the time we’d finished our mains, my parents just wanted to go home—they were exhausted, and the evening was completely ruined. We had to negotiate hard to have our bill reduced but really, we’d rather have paid in full, left a tip and had a memorable evening. If your kitchen can’t cope with that many customers, don’t take so many bookings and don’t take their money and leave them feeling so fed up.
This was meant to be a special family occasion, but it ended up being a massive disappointment. For a restaurant to treat its guests with such disregard, especially on such an important night, is completely unacceptable. We won’t...
