So this cafe has all the right stuff to be wonderful! But I had a really strange experience. For context, it was a scorching day so the beach was busy. I had four small children with me all of whom were hungry, sandy and demanding. My other half had messaged me the menu while I was on the beach trying to wresstle 3 year olds out of wetsuits and I made a spur if the moment decision on what meal he should order me. Once I finally got all kids up to cafe my food arrived straight away and I realised it really wasn't what I fancied. So I asked a waitress straightaway if there was any scope to change it. Now I knew this was a long shot, I get it, I'd ordered it - it's my fault. But I thought it might be the case that another table had also ordered it and they could have had the one on our table (obviously I hadn't touched it) and they might be able to help me out. I asked very nicely "I'm so sorry but I've ordered in error i dont supposed theres any scope to change my food is there?" The waitress looked like a rabbit I'm the headlights and said "I'll go ask!" Well then this guy appeared with the biggest attitude!! He opened the conversation with "What's the problem?" Again I calmly and apologetically enquired if there was any scope to change my meal. The guy laughed in my face and said "what get you a new meal because you don't like it? Obviously not because it's all freshly made." To which I said "yes if course no problem" but then he just didn't let it drop he carried on repeating "I can't swap out your fresh food just because you ordered wrong" , "No, OK, sorry I understand," to which he said "I don't think you do understand" and kept standing there making everyone at our table really uncomfortable (apart from the four oblivious toddlers) in the end I said "OK! Thank you!" And he said "I'm not having a go at you" to which I replied "it feels like you are" and he rolled his eye and walked away. It may be that I'm the massive AH here and should never have asked but I was stressed out and didn't want to miss out on a great opportunity to eat what I wanted so I just asked on the off chance full expecting a "no sorry we can't do that" but not a public dressing down and ridiculing. It ruined the meal for everyone in our party. I'm guessing from the rest of the positive reviews in here that this isn't a regular occurance and maybe we were both just having bad days. But I felt like I was being cast as a massive Karen which really wasn't my intention and left me feeling really upset. I've never written a negative Google review before (not a Karen!) But felt I should just flag this up as it really...
Read moreLocation wonderful but everything else disappointing - I think we must have caught them on a bad day though as have heard great things. Will try them again and hope for better!
Atmosphere and location 5* Service 3* Food/Drink 1*
Paid £12 for avocado on toast with poached eggs. Menu description sounded lovely.
Toast came cold, unbuttered, with no butter provided. Avocado portion was about 1/4 of an avocado, literally just scooped out of the case and plopped onto the toast. Not smashed or spread around. Eggs and been badly poached so that almost no white remained, and both yolks were overcooked and hard. Honestly considered sending it back but it had taken so long to arrive, I was too hungry to bother.
Others had the mini breakfast which was okay, better, but still arrived lukewarm and with no butter on the toast.
Ordered 4 coffees which took about 15 mins to arrive, and they appear to make each one individually meaning the first one had gone cold by the time the last was done. Had to send back for a replacement which wasn't met with any apology.
Asked for the next round of 4 coffees extra hot, and they still only arrived warm.
Overall pretty disappointed but must admit, the location is so wonderful that we still had a nice time despite the poor...
Read moreWe've become a bit of a regular here on sunny days lately. My mobility problems are no hindrance to sitting on one of the many seats overlooking the great expanse of beach . Menu is right up my street, We had bread with olive oil and balsamic vinegar, 2 good sized chicken skewers with a great sauce and salad and half a dozen juicy tiger prawns in a buttery garlicky sauce. A decent snack for 2 for about £22. Good quality fare. Friendly chatty staff in a relaxed setting. Nothing like St Ives, Newquay, Padstow etc. Large amount of parking, reasonably priced at a couple of quid for 3 hours. Two separate bars here, the Sandbar upstairs and this...
