Five Gold Stars for the Sugar Loaf Café Portland.

Five Gold Stars because their food and service is so good. I have visited the Sugar Loaf Café on Portland several times, and I have always been impressed with the quality of their food, and the personal service that I have received.

They have a very extensive menu with about 20 main courses, and also 20 desserts, which is quite surprising for such a small Café. Of course everything is homemade and is cooked to perfection on the premises. And yes they do cater for vegetarians, and people with food allergies. Although I think they would get a prize for their Steak Pie!

They also sell their own chutney and marmalades as well as their delicious cakes. I have tried various items on the menu and always been very satisfied with my selection. it is really nice to get good home cooked quality food and service. Their prices are quite competitive, and reasonable in comparison to many other restaurants

The Sugar Loaf Café is quite petite, and furnished very homely. And of course I did notice that many of their customers are regulars, who are greeted with a hug, and of course it’s quite apparent that these regulars do appreciate good food.

I have given the Sugar Loaf Café Five Gold Stars in my survey, because they have earned...

We went here for breakfast and it was very basic but homely in a way. The place was clean and bright so was the toilet. It was a tiny bit cramped inside the café but not a show stopper. I ordered scrambled eggs, beans and toast. I have to say I like my scrambled eggs in a certain way which they delivered. The staff member was very helpful and actually spent time talking to us so thanks for making us welcome. As far as I could tell everyone enjoyed their breakfast and I am sure we will visit again should we be in that neck of the woods in future. I would recommend this place to anyone...

Similar experience to many others, this place feels more for the locals with time than for a tourist passing through. It took a while for our order to be taken, as we were able to look through the menu for both food and drinks before anyone came to the table. It is not a problem and the staff were pleasant, it is just not what we are used to. The food took some time to come and our orders came at different times (about 5 mins apart). The food did taste homemade. It would have been nice to have the menu state that the quiche is...

What a find! A gem of a place, we were looking for 'all day breakfast' & SO glad to have discovered this place. Not only is the food fantastic & a good price, the staff are just fabulous! Desserts & cakes are home made & you can buy home made chutneys & jams too. It's cosy with character (you need to book for Sunday roast we find) and we have kept coming back, wouldn't go anywhere else now! If the lemon meringue pie is on, you're in for a real treat! Best veggie nut roast I've ever had!

Home-made variety of meals available. I had a Ploughmans - plenty of food on plate but would have preferred a crusty roll or French bread, not a soft roll. My companion ordered the Pate Ploughmans which was served with toast when crusty bread would have been better! The outside seating area is packed with fruiting plants, apple tree, grape vine, passion fruit vine, blackcurrants & blackberries as well as flowers. A sunny delight to enjoy al fresco dining! Also sell jams etc

For me, it is an old school restaurant. Home cooked food . Special of the days, roast dinner daily. Fry up, pies. Fresh cakes, cheesecakes. Staff were really friendly and helpful. Even when I didn't get some I asked for, I said not to worry, they still done it. Pricing was good for this day with the cost of living. Sad, we keep losing these little gems. Great work, Sugar loaf.
