Feeling a bit let down by our experience at The Hayloft. I had phoned earlier in the week to see if we could book a table for afternoon tea on Mothers Day. Being told that there was availability I booked the table for 3.30. Now maybe at that point the lady I spoke to could have said that the cafe actually closed at 4pm. We arrived at 3.25 for cake and tea with our mothers in tow to find one slice of apple cake and some wrapped up brownies the only cakes available. We asked if that was all there was on offer we were told that that's all there was as they would be closing at 4pm until the following week. Not very helpful!!! We promptly left, disappointed and ended up at the excellent Lobster Pot at Portland Bill. Who were not only able to accommodate us but told us not to rush as they were so busy they would be staying open past their usual closing time of 5pm. Sorry hayloft won't be...

Staff more interested in chatting in the kitchen than serving customers ended with me asking if the sausage roll ordered and paid for over 25 minutes earlier was in the process of actually appearing. Somewhat resentful, the member of staff stalked off into the kitchen, to emerge moments later telling me it would be out in 30 seconds. 2 or 3 minutes later it actually arrived at the table, with no hint of an apology for the delay. And after all that it hadn't been worth the wait, and most of it remained on the plate when we left, as did the stodgy, somewhat flavourless piece of cake that had been my selection. Very...

Decided to try Hayloft as my sister had never been. We are locals and were frankly dissapointed. My sister had a ploughmans which in our opinion was overpriced at Β£11, can only say that the meal lacked lustre and imagination, consisting of some small pieces of cheese, some small pickled onions and pickle with a boring baguette and NO SALAD, she could have ordered a small bowl of salad for an extra Β£3. Mky meal of a filled baquette was adequate but coffee took ages and was cold when served. Sadly we were...
