Ben Tunnicliffe is one of the more recent additions to the Sennen Cove beach, and was formerly known as 'The Beach', let's just say, it's not an improvement. From what is visible nothing new has been added to the establishment, besides a new logo, which must be where they put all their money, since clearly none has been used to benefit the company, despite it having a prime tourist location. The decoration is one of the most confusing things I've seen besides the poor management. The owner clearly has a liking for the F1 so objects that follow that subject have been lazily put on the walls and roof beams, but apparently they had a few children's bikes that they found in a shed or stole, and thought hey, why don't we stick them on the roof, since apparently they have no money. Moving on to service, well, there isn't any. This is one of the larger let downs of the restaurant. The staff seem nice enough, but take 20 minutes to act when there is an issue. Food can take a while to arrive in peak hours, but not because of customer quality, but because of the confusing card system they use to mark out customers that ordered something. Despite them inventing the system, they are more confused by it than the customer, which doesn't really encourage efficiency. Next topic is the food and items served. A majority of it is bought in, which isn't too much of an issue, if they actually bought enough in. Serving a cream tea without jam, is practically scamming people of money when you don't inform them that it's missing from the item they are serving.
In conclusion, the restaurant is depressingly mediocre or even below average. It's a shame since the views are impressive, and it's a relaxing place to spend time after having fun on the beach all day. Would advise looking in to other locations of eating. The shops below the restaurant serve decent food if you want to eat...
Read morePicture the scene, a huge terrace overlooking a glorious cove of white sand and statuesque waves, idyllic for surfers, for dogs to run, for children to play, for adults to top up their summer tans. The terrace in question is part of The Surf Beach Bar, which is a beach fronted, coolly decorated, family and dog friendly ‘hip’ restaurant. Now, one would think this place would be filled, buzzing with regulars and visitors to the area keen to chill, relax and be served fantastic local produce whilst enjoying the views. However... and this is the possibly one of the many reasons that it’s not: the service is terrible. My partner and I have been coming to the cove every year, we normally stop by for a bite to eat at what was a nice restaurant, Ben Tunnicliffes- albeit it was not perfect. But Ben Tunnicliffe’s - not always perfect restaurant was a far superior place than the shell that it is now. What an absolute waste of a location. A coffee and hot chocolate order was met with this dialogue from a member of staff. He barely looks up ‘yes?’ he asks. ‘May I have a coffee and hot chocolate please’ I ask him slightly jaded. ‘£5.40’ he tells me looking anywhere but at me. ‘Okay...’ I tell him thinking where is the please and handing him my card to pay ‘It will be over there’ he tells me pointing at the other end of the bar. In shock and disappointment at the lack of politeness and cold reception we sit near the window and bask in the delights of the mis-en-scene. Without knowing or being informed our coffee and hot chocolate are dumped at the end of the bar for us to somehow discover for ourselves. The hot chocolate I am told was nice. The coffee was okay. The staff hide in the corners whilst other confused customers hover uncomfortably to be served. The waves roll on, the sand scatters and this ‘too cool for anyone in reality’ restaurant wastes every...
Read moreI called in here with a party of 10 people walking the SWCP. We all ordered drinks. The serving staff were very good although it did take a while to be served. As we were all individuals on a walking tour I went to pay for my drink. The Diva at the counter told me that I couldn't pay separately and someone from the group will have to pay for everyone! I insisted that I wanted to pay for my drink and couldn't understand why she couldn't take a card payment for a single drink? She became high rate and argued with me. I stood my ground and she finally let me pay. She then went to the group and insisted that they pay as a group! This resulted in another argument the group then reluctantly agreed individually to chip in there share and pay with cash. Oh no she wouldn't except cash! This resulted in chaos. It was finally resolved after much unnecessary and unwanted arguments. Although it's a very nice cafe and the serving staff were very good I think miss Diva would do well to go on a customer service course or maybe find...
