I sadly had a really bad experience staying here. I'm not one to write bad reviews but as someone who travels on there own quite a lot I feel it's important for others to hear and for hotel management to make some changes. ||||I went up to bed around 10ish and was woken up around midnight by some really loud drunk shouting / banging / crashing to the point where I actually was getting scared... At 3.30am i text and tried calling the landlord before panicking and calling the police. I was really worried they were fighting and i could hear their door opening opposite mine. Of course it isn't the hotels fault that this was happening but I felt very alone.||||Now this is where I hold the hotel accountable. I found that I was completely locked into the building when trying to let the police in through the entrance and fire door. I was later told the fire escape was unlocked but 'very stiff'. I was down there for about 5 minutes trying it with all my weight while the police officer on the other side did the same. The police then told me to stop and go lock myself in my room while they called a fire engine... 'very stiff' seems very unlikely and seriously not okay for anybodies safety.||||I'm a young women used to being solo and travelling a lot but this was by far the most scary and vulnerable position I'd found myself in. What if there was a fire? What if the drunken men got aggressive with me or hurt each other? I was completely locked into the building and as far as I knew it was just me and then two very drunk angry sounding people in the building.||||The landlord called me about a hour after and let me know there were staff in the building (I wasn't aware). The staff member then came up to my floor and checked what was going on by which point the drunken men had stopped (5am and this point).||Niether the landlord or the hotel staff checked in on me again and nobody working downstairs when I left said a...
Read moreWe have been coming to the Swan for years whenever we are on holiday in Cornwall. We always like to pop in for Sunday Roast as they have always been excellent quality in the past. This time, however, the roast was horrific. You can’t knock the portion sizes (they’re huge!) but the quality of the produce is lacking and the gravy was vile. A glue-like consistency and carried the worst taste I have ever experienced. The plate was swimming in this monstrous slop too. A group of 12 were sat beside us and they all said the same thing. Everyone complained and instead of offering discounted meals, we were all given 30% discount vouchers off our next meal. Obviously banking on the fact that none of us would return and actually use them, which we most certainly will not.
In summary, avoid the roast dinner like the plague. Disgusting. The rest of the menu may be fine…..?
Another family walked out after waiting for service for 20 minutes. The staff were very busy dealing with the large number of complaints about the terrible roast dinners but a quick word with them to apologise wouldn’t have gone amiss.
All in all, a very disappointing visit and we will not...
Read moreBe prepared to wait a very long time! Our family of 4 had to wait an hour and 20 minutes+ for our meals - which were thankfully quite tasty, if not a little on the cold side. We also had absolutely no indication at all that the wait would be that long from any of the poor servers (almost as if they were told not to tell us), who were obviously trying their best but were clearly overwhelmed and stressed from the amount of angry customers they were dealing with. On top of that, we also had to pay before we received our meal, which forced us to stay instead of walking out and finding somewhere else to eat. Overall, the environment seemed really unprofessional, especially with no one being told exact timings once they managed to flag down a server! One customer actually walked to the co-op nearby, bought a bunch of things, and returned after 30 minutes to there still being no meal.
It seems that this restaurant overbooks it’s tables, and leaves it’s staff to struggle with the aftermath....
