Stopped on our way out of the village late afternoon as we were feeling peckish and from the outside the pub looked very pretty (less so inside). Anyway ordered some drinks and looked at the menu board to make a food selection. My partner ordered a steak (£17) and I ordered a lamb burger (£12). Basically folks the burger I was served up was absolutely rubbish (supposedly homemade but somehow I doubt it) in a dry slightly stale plain white bun, absolutely no salad or garnish of any description....just a very small burger in a dry bun! The chips were just horrible (no triple cooking here folks) straight out of the freezer I suspect and into the fryer..... slightly overdone and dry as hell. Finally the salad....dry, limp, no dressing....rubbish. My partners steak was practically inedible....fatty, chewy beyond description and not the juicy rare piece of meat she was hoping for. Again the chips and salad were aweful. Food cooked with no love or passion by we suspect the teenage girl who served it to us (she was the only person we saw in the kitchen through the open door). If we had not paid up front we would have refused to pay. Our dog was fed practically the entire steak under the table....so expensive dog food!! Just beware.......give the swan a wide birth if hungry. We were in Dorset for a week on holiday and have to say ate some truly brilliant food in other places.....just our experience of the...
Read moreA very typical country pub on the outskirts of the lovely village of Abbotsbury. Always decent food cooked to order with a more traditional pub service and vibe. Also allow camper vans to stop overnight as long as you eat or drink in the pub. Some friendly locals here too and ideally placed for the walk down to the swannery (how bizarre!). Today we enjoyed roast beef, nicely cooked with a variety of vegetables. Then we had a cheeky bread and butter pudding with lashings of custard!! It's even nicer in the summertime out in the pub garden. Lastly, only a 2 minute walk from the old abandoned railway line that leads to the next village of Portisham with a nice pub and dairy farm shop. From here you can also walk up to...
Read moreI came in for a family dinner, it's a very cosy pub with lots of photos of local life and times of what I assume to be people associated with the pub, it looks like this place meant a lot to quite a few people.
The highlight for me was the dinner, I had the potato and broccoli bake with garlic bread and a salad, it took me back to my aunties cooking when I went round her house every Sunday, so it's difficult to put into words how much I enjoyed the food.
For dessert we had sticky toffee pudding and a homemade crumble, both served with hot custard, as it was a chilly day that was perfect to warm us up before we left.
I will definitely be back again if I'm...
