I know people have bad days. Firstly, as a cycle group we come here A LOT. Today we rocked up and it was busy. However, even though I was already sat at a table, when I went up to order a coffee and cake I was told "we are too busy to make you a coffee and can only serve you a cold drink" I just went and sat back at my table with nothing. However, for some unknown reason, the other 3 in my group were able to order coffee and food, I sat and watched them drink coffee. So I looked around and counted. There were 4 staff working. 26 guests inside, incl us 4, 2 cyclist out back and 1 cyclist out the front. Literally 5 mins after we arrived, 3 groups left leaving only 12 people inside, including us 4. So technically the 14 guests which left were effectively zero strain on the coffee maker guy or the kitchen when I originally tried to order a black coffee. Now the place was half empty I went and tried again. This time they were not too busy to make me a simple Americano. Can't deny we were all a bit frustrated as the other 3 waited 40 minutes for their egg sandwiches. We will probably still go back. But it was frustrating given in the hour we sat in there it...
Read moreWe stayed at the weekend and we're very impressed. The room was large, as was the bed! It was beautifully furnished and the bathroom was lovely with an excellent shower and lovely shower gel/shampoo etc. |The room had a hairdryer, can, tea and coffee facilities and really nice biscuits. |The instructions for entering the building and using the facilities were clear and extremely helpful. We particularly liked how secure the whole place felt with it's locks and codes so you can easily access when the cafe is closed. Plenty of free parking just outside also which was great. We had breakfast each morning in the cafe and the food was excellent. The cafe itself is very nice, it's comfy and really welcoming. The menu was excellent as was the food. I recommend the eggs Benedict! |The staff were incredibly helpful and one gentleman who worked there even took the time to make suggestions for things we could do, so we took his advice and went to Stroud farmers and then for a lovely walk on the common above Stroud. All in all a lovely place to stay and definitely...
Read moreHad a great family weekend utilising all four rooms. We were made to feel very welcome and were really pleased with the quality, cleanliness and presentation of the accommodation. The beds were really comfortable and the bathrooms of the highest standard. A fabulous old building, the interior of which has all been modernised, with a spacious café and attractive outside seating area at the rear. Plenty of parking in the wide main street, which is surprisingly quiet at night. The village is charming, with one of the river Avons floating passed nearby and lots of interesting cottages and historic houses. The Angel is the 'only one in the village' (cafe with rooms), as are the Rattlebone Inn and The Bridge Indian restaurant, both of which we would also highly recommend. Our meal in The Bridge was exceptional. The Angel and Sherston are a great base to explore the area, where there is much of interest. Not much sign of Marvin Gaye but...
