We stumbled upon 'The Barista' by chance after attending an event locally. Upon entering we were impressed how modern and clean everything was. Note, when entering from the front the cafe is located at the back of the property. There is a door through, from the restaurant/bar. The cafe is table service. The staff were pleasant and efficient and we were quickly seated and our order taken. I ordered eggs Benedict and my husband a cooked breakfast. The prices are very reasonable, when the food was delivered to our table is nicely presented, the taste and quality of the food was equally good. I noted from my husband's breakfast the traditional Cumberland sausages, good quality lean bacon, etc. My eggs Benedict was also very nice, with runny eggs you could actually mix with the hollandaise sauce, which is how I like it. In all, we enjoyed our experience at 'The Barista'. We'll definitely be back. Thanks for the...
Read moreAs my handsome partner and I first laid foot on Wigton soil, our noses were abruptly met with a smell that can only be described as resembling burning rubber and doodoo. We quickly hastened to find an airtight cafe or eatery. In a charming wee charity Shoppe we were recommended a charming modern new cafe and gin bar called THE BARISTA. Outside its door was a potted plant that had tipped over and was obstructing the public pavement. I corrected this trip hazard as I feared for public safety and then entered the establishment. We were charged 2.25 for a mixer on top of an extortionately priced single shot of gin. The initially appealing raspberry and white chocolate roulade tasted as if it had been growing stale in a fridge surrounded by porky pies for several days. Bad service. Regretted picking up potted plant. Would...
Read moreJack of all trades and master of none, none even amateur status. They do very slow takeaway, loads of other places in Wigton do competent standards of decent takeaway food. They do what they laughingly describe as Tapas and Monkey Tree do real Tapas. They try to do 'posh' food but Kildare beats them at this. They try to be a café/bistro, but The Glasshouse, Granary and Twelve 62 beat them hands down. They try to do basic, but as its not worth waiting 45 minutes for sausage and mash - Spotted Cow blows them out of the water. They try to jump on the Gin bandwagon - but even the Markethall does this better. They are a poor imitation of many many places that already exist in Wigton and the arrogant attitude doesn't help - "Wigton are crying out for a place like this" they say. No it isn't as it already has better places...
