Visited here as a group of 3 on a Thursday night for my Father's 90th Birthday. The atmosphere was welcoming and homely. Even though it was early at 6.30pm, the dining rooms were full. Luckily, we had reserved a table, which I would definitely recommend. 2 of us had a starter, both opting for the crab, which was a suitably sized portion, packed full of flavour. For a main course, we went our separate ways and chose the Halibut, the Rabbit, and the Grouse, with unnecessary sides of dauphinoise potato and carrots. There are not enough ways to describe how delicious all of these dishes were. The complimentary combinations of flavours danced on our taste buds, and the portions were large enough so we could continue to enjoy these delightful and satisfying dishes for a good amount of time. For desert, we chose the sorbet/mousse/parfait option. A good selection of wine and drinks from the bar complimented the meal. The staff were attentive, polite, welcoming, and professional. This is what made a good experience a great experience. Overall this is a 5 star dining venue, I would have to say probably the best in the Darlington area, and deffinately up there with other fine restaurants I have dined in...

BEWARE! My partner and I called in for a quick drink today and ordered a pint of Moretti and a medium glass of Chardonnay - price £19.80. My partner queried this and was told it was correct. The medium wine was £13.50. I looked online and nowhere on the wine list was a wine by the glass at that price. I queried this myself to a male member of staff as I swear this was the same wine I had only a couple of weeks ago. I was informed the wine list was ‘changed last week’ and the one I’d had preciously was French and this new one was American - I would swear this was one and the same wine. To add insult to injury I was told I actually got it at the wrong price and it should have been £16 a glass. I wondered why we were the only couple in the bar. BE FOREWARNED!! Something is adrift here. *As an update this ‘supposed’ wine has never appeared on the wine list. So we now know we were just fobbed off and over charged but they did not want to admit their mistake. This says a lot about this...

I attended in a group of 6, and the news year day lunch wasnt as good as i was led to believe. I was confused by the menu as to what was a meal and what was a list of what was on the plate. I had smoked salmon risotto, and what i was presented looked like ordinary salmon and a rice pudding blend, with a dried salmon skin partially greasy and dry, not the best smelling fish skin i have attempted. Then i had the chicken and leek, again a bad move as a dry roasted chicken was killed by the leek concoction it was placed on. The final choice was the cheese board. Again it looked lovely, but i remembered once told me by a chef overseas, "do not eat anything you can not identify," this menu was a prime example of that saying. Unfortunatly since that meal i have had an upset stomach, causing me much distress. I am sure a visit to that resteraunt, is not something i...

Had read about the Bay Horse being one of the best gastro pubs in the north, so booked lunch there on our way home from our wedding anniversary mini-break. It was absolutely superb. We had the prix fixe lunch since it had dishes we liked the look of, and everything my wife and I had was excellent - and good value too, at £25 for three courses. But it was the extra touches as well that made it a memorable meal - tasty mini breads to start, with spreadable butter (and you don't always get that), the selection of petit fours with the coffee. We had tables on the patio - ideal for a very hot day. Staff were friendly. Hurworth-on-Tees itself is a lovely village. Definitely would recommend the Bay Horse to anyone. We'll be back, and maybe try the main menu as a special treat.

Christmas Eve lunch at the Bay Horse in Hurworth was perfect in every sense. The warm welcome from the bar staff was followed by the usual polite and effortless table service. The food? Well, this was the star of the day: succulent bronze turkey, perfectly pink filet steak, and tender beef wellington. This gastropub is best described as fine dining—tasty fine dining. This is a kitchen that knows its food! The Bay Horse in Hurworth never fails to impress with its quality of food and service. We returned this week for more of their autumnal signature dish, the delicate grouse – it was superb. For starters, we had the seafood pancake and scallops, which were very tasty
