I have visited wetherspoons in various cities, some very good and some not so good. On 4th August2025 during my trip to Driffield in East Yorkshire I popped into the Benjamin Fawcett wetherspoon.
Firstly the staff were very helpful, obliging and kept extremely busy. Although the furniture was looking shabby and the chair I sat on was at risk of seriously trapping someone's finger due to wear and tear, I looked beyond this and ordered food.
The food I ordered for myself was something I have eaten at many wetherspoons across the country. From one of two contradictory menus I chose a 12" deli wrap of egg, bacon and sausage and I knew what to expect to was looking forward to it. What arrived was a lukewarm wrap that was cold by the second bite. I returned the sandwich in exchange for a replacement of the same. This time I received a wrap where the bacon was overcooked and extremely brittle throughout. My holiday lunch for that day was ruined and inedible.
The staff were very obliging.
Finally there are two food menus that contradict each other on price, the standard menu against the special menu. The special suggests a better deal on certain days and between certain hours, however this was not the case. I discussed it with a very helpful member of staff but he could not fathom the pricing.
All in all the Benjamin Fawcett Wetherspoons was a total let down on food as well as health & safety with regards...
Read moreHaving previously given this venue a good review unfortunately I've edited my review from a few years ago. It used to be cheap and cheerful, but unfortunately prices have risen to a point there are better places to eat and it's far from cheerful. If you want to spend a day in the pub drinking cheap beer and taking advantage of special offers for food a bargain can be had and it may be a good choice. But if you are considering visiting for a bite to eat and want to choose your meal instead of buying on price then you can do far better. Foods adequate, prices are now middling, staff are generally decent, it's often noisy and not very civilised (in fairness it is a wetherspoons), can be busy but you will usually find a table, nothing "wrong" with the place it just all boils down to price, spoons isn't a particularly nice dining experience but when it's cheap it's bearable, a meal for two here now is on a par price wise with the likes of nandos, pizza express or a dozen other chain eateries including most chain pubs. You...
Read moreVery disappointed, ordered food & hot drinks via their app from an outside bench table adjacent to a public footpath. When the lady arrived with our coffees she informed us that we weren't allowed to sit there with a dog. Bearing in mind we were right beside the public footpath I didn't see what difference having a dog this side of a piece of tape made. The only other couple sat nearby said the dog was better behaved than most children! There was a generic sign on the wall saying assistance dogs only but we assumed that referred to them not being allowed INSIDE the premises. Nonetheless we had to go elsewhere. I have refrained from giving a one star review due to the very apologetic lady that served us. She quickly cancelled our order and fully refunded our order. I'm not blaming her or this particular branch but maybe the chain needs clear signage that specifies dogs aren't allowed on outside tables either? This seems to be a self defeating rule as we took our business to a cafe just...
