I hate being negative but the one thing that annoys me the most is greed in the food and drink industry. Especially when we want to try and support local establishments instead of the chains popping up everywhere.
For a measly amount of chips, expect to pay close to £5. For a pub burger, not gourmet or anything, expect to pay around £15! For a simple salad, expect to pay around £15! For pints, the prices are similar to those in London. I can understand if pubs are struggling but it's obvious that in this case they have a captive audience. Situated in a location that's close to an open area near the church too.
There is no reason on earth to charge such silly prices, compared with places like wetherspions or other pubs fairly close to this one it begs the question...why is everything so expensive here?
For those haters out there who think I'm just rambling on like a cheapskate, I have to say that I don't mind paying even £100 for a burger but it would need to be very special and warrant such a price tag. If you think it's worth the money then ignore this review but for those who like good pub food and drink at acceptable and reasonable prices, I suggest you...
Read moreI was really looking forward to trying this place for a Sunday roast today. I went by myself and saw there was a restaurant area with around 7 tables mostly filled. The bar area and outdoor seating area was empty. I approached the chap behind the bar and said I was on my own and would like to order some lunch. I was in middle of asking whether I needed to order at the bar when he interrupted me and said, “We’re completely full.” I said, “Oh, can i eat something outside or in the bar area....?” He snapped at me, “we’re completely full.” And turned his back on me. I felt a bit stung and confused by his rudeness. The outdoor area and bar were almost empty. I don’t know whether they just don’t allow you to eat in those areas, he could’ve just said if that was the case but I just don’t understand his rudeness, it seemed so unnecessary. I’m staying in Aldbourne for a few days and would’ve been in there a few times had there been a minimal level of...
Read moreThe Blue Boar is a quintessential English pub set in the heart of a proper English Village. As soon as you walk through the front door you feel at home and the staff make you feel more than welcome. There is a good selection of well kept cask conditioned ales as well as a superb pint of Guinness! The Sunday lunch is to die for and as a starter I would highly recommend the haggis bon bons:-) we spent time in The Blue Boar during the past weekend and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. I can only imagine it being a very popular pub come the summer months when you can sit outside on the Green in the heart of the village and casually watch the world go by. 10 out of 10 from us and we look forward to returning to The Blue Boar...
