This will be an honoust review from two sides. My husband’s, whom I specifically booked this hotel for due to his love of the 101, and mine: a traveller who was really looking forward to our second honeymoon.|Now, if you’re into the 101, Band of Brothers and everything that has happened in the UK in |WWII, you will find this place amazing. It’s history, it’s melancholy, you will have slept in the same room where sgt. Malarkey slept (according to the website but not too sure how logical that would be) and the pink glasses refuse to come off.|If you are simply on a holiday with your husband to visit beautiful England and normally set reasonably to high standards to the places you stay at (like myself), this is quite the disappointment. |Sticky doorposts, the smell of wet dog, dirty carpets on the stairs. A crooked and quite small room with an even more crooked wet cell (do not dare to call it a bathroom) where the toilet does not flush properly, (so please, don’t install yourself on the thrown when you need to do a number 2, the toilet will not flush everything through or flood) and a double set of fresh earplugs on the desk, which makes you wonder why these would be provided (which we found out a bit later when all the sounds of the neighbours and the pub channeled up the stairs straight into our room).|If Malarky actually stayed in this room, he probably stayed in the same bed. The springs in the mattress are very present which is not helpfull when you crave a good night’s sleep. |There was a small hatch in the room where we thought might be a closet, instead it was a cupboard under the stairs (no Harry Potter was found) with debris, paintbrushes an a condom. Fortunatelly unused. |The cobwebs (not just in the room ,also in the restaurant) the dust on the kettle and the windowwasher waking us up in the morning washing our outside window while chatting with his collegue, were just another couple of things added to the disappointment-list. Dried out pasty for dinner (came with apologies and a reduction of the bill) and overworked staff (ordered breakfast at 9, was served at 9:20 by one of the staff members who seemed to have a lot on her plate). We were supposed to stay for two nights, but left after one. |If the owners would have a look at their establishment through the eyes of someone who is more interested in Downton Abbey, Midsomer Murders and Bridgerton and does not have a WWII hobby like her husband, would you see the things I saw and find it below standards as well? |Ending with a positive note: the staff were friendly and helpfull and worked...

Read more“Nice Pub, Unpleasant Accommodation”||||We stayed at the pub for one night. From the outside, it’s a traditional and pleasant-looking place, and the atmosphere in the bar was very enjoyable. The food and drink were good , and we had a lovely evening in that regard.||||Unfortunately, the accommodation left a lot to be desired. As we were shown to our room, the carpets on the landing and hallway were filthy, and the décor was tatty and worn. While the room itself was as clean as it could be, it was shabby and desperately in need of renovation. The so-called “king-size bed” was a king-size mattress awkwardly placed on a double divan base.||||Breakfast the next morning was another disappointment. We had to call into the kitchen to get someone’s attention, and when the coffee arrived, it was cold. The food was edible, but that’s about the best I can say for it.||||I would recommend this pub for its food and drinks, as the bar and dining experience was nice. However, the accommodation is substandard and certainly not...
