The Bluebell — Restaurant in England

Came here as was recommended good place to eat. Brought friends and my 15month old son, barmaid had face like a bulldog chewing a wasp as soon as we entered, got greeted by "are you lot eating?" In such a tone I'm not sure this lady likes people. I was a little shocked but replied politely..yes we are eating" she responded cockily..well its going to be at least an hour wait as we are busy, i maintained decorum and said yep thats fine no problem, please can i have a highchair for him. we then found a table and I waited for the highchair, then the barmaid came out of the kitchen with the chair and the return of the bulldog wasp face and the highchair got practically swung at us, it even hit the table as she threw it down in such a strop. I just stood there in complete horror thinking my god! I popped my son in and we tried to not let it dampen the experience, il be honest her attitude stank that much between the pouting, huffing, posing and such awful mannerisms it was shocking. What turned it around was the chef, he came out about ten mins later and spoke to us and said he was doing his best, he was polite well mannered, smiling with a friendly face. A very disappointing experience all round. Went for a Xmas meal with a party of 28. There was an extremely long wait for the food with the first main course not being served until 1 1/2 hours after our booked start time. The rest of the meals came slowly over a long period of time. When they did arrive the meals were barely warm and presented on cold plates. Most people found the vegetables hard and very under cooked. Much of the food was taken away uneaten. It was only after expressing extreme dissatisfaction that the manageress reluctantly offered a miserly reduction on the overall bill equating to about £3 a head. This was not considered adequate compensation for such a poor meal but she was either unwilling or unable to consider anything more realistic. She had been conferring with the owner by phone but he refused to speak to me and has failed to do so since despite me leaving my number. Come on Gary this in not the way to run a business. Overall totally unacceptable food and attitude. The only praise goes to the single waitress on duty who was very plesent and obviously trying to do her best. I would not recommend...

Today 02/12/22 myself and 4 friends had Christmas lunch. The staff were very friendly and our table laid out with crackers. Got drinks at the bar, and our food quickly came. We were all very happy with the quality, quantity and tastiness of the food. The desert didnt disappoint and my Christmas Pudding was delicious. Teas and coffee to finish and we were well satisfied. The place was very busy but the staff had everything under control. The place very clean and inviting. Well done to you all for your hard work and attention to detail. Complements also to the chef.
