The Boycott Arms great looking pub, staff friendly, but as the name says boycott the place if you want good food. Menu is boring no fish dishes other than fried & battered fish (not cod I wonder what it actually is?) I bent the fork squashing my peas!!!!, chips were the worst I have ever had, the "Fresh bread" was a burger bun. I am not sure what was in the bowl, the menu stated lamb, one would expect more than 4 1/2 inch squares of meat. The free range chickens that perched anywhere including on the tables are an obvious H&S issue (see footnote) as is the canopy base that is infested with flies (1 MT away from us). Eating outside in a rural area one would expect flies but certainty not this amount. On being asked "was everything alright" by the lady clearing the plates I said no would you like the truth she listened to us & said I will send the manager. I told her not to bother just pass our comments onto the cook. The manager arrived. I think Gordon Ramsey would love a session with her, She was in total denial that the food was not good, even examining it she could see nothing wrong. As other reviews say the food is good we can only assume the regular cook was off. She asked if we would like a replacement & we denied for obvious reasons. All I expected was for her to apologise the word SORRY was missing :-( - FOOTNOTE - RE: The free range chickens = Salmonella and Campylobacter are common public health hazards potentially associated with chicken contact. These bacteria are carried by healthy chickens and are communicable to people through...
Β Β Β Read moreWorst carvery and customer service i've ever had! We ordered 4 XL roast dinners, took an hour and a half to come but wouldn't have minded if it were a nice meal. Apparently an XL roast dinner only consists of 2 thin slices of meat which were cold, ALL the veg that came was cold, the cauliflower cheese came seperate that was cold, the gravy was cold and when I say cold I mean I'm still convinced they gave it me from the fridge! The only thing that was hot on the plate was the mashed potato, the yorkshire pudding I couldn't tell if it was hot or cold because it was that burnt and hard it was inedible. Oh and they brought the dinners out with no roast potatoes on only to be told by the useless waitress that she forgot to tell us there was no potatoes.... the same waitress that told us not to bother ordering starters because the wait was too long because they were so backed up with orders... the same waitress that when we turned up at 4 o clock for the table we had booked for 4 o clock told us our table wasnt ready and there was no where to wait so we'll have to wait outside in the freezing cold until they can sort a table out. Would strongly advise against anyone going here literally have nothing good to say about the place....
Β Β Β Read moreWhen we arrived the pub was virtually empty, a log fire in bar was inviting and we went into the restaurant. Oh dear, dull and dreary seriously in need of decoration. The open fire wasn't lit and it was quite chilly. Waiting staff were pleasant and we were given menus, sticky pages and 1 had no pages inside and 2 were different to the others so very off putting. We decided to risk it and ordered our food. After 45 mins no food had arrived so we asked at the bar - they were plating up the food. 3 steaks, a burger, steak and ale pie, pork belly and gammon. So the food:- Probably the best pub food yet and I compare this to other nearby pubs that serve great food. The steaks were cooked exactly right, rare was rare, medium rare was medium rare....the chef got this spot on. The burger - clearly home made and superb, steak and ale pie was fabulous, gammon perfect and pork belly fantastic. Only criticism was lack of condiments as they had to hunt for vinegar and the mayo MUST be Hellmans not cheap cash and carry sachets! Food 5 star Ambience 2 star Service 3 star (pleasant but slowwwwww) Sort the decor the menus and the heating as this is off putting....the...
