I was hoping for good things after reading some of these reviews but this was not the case undortuantely. Having a father whos family lived in lands end and owned farms there I/we have consumed a fair amount of pasties over the years.
Not being able to get to cornwall much now days meant I had decided to make an order online to get some cornish pasties delivered at home in Essex, upon arrival they were shared with my parents and brothers family to try. The hope was to find an authentic cornish pasty. Ingredient wise these are traditional (no peas, sweet corn etc) but either they pepper the steak or theres someone baking who loves the stuff. The taste is annhilated by pepper and left literally sweating due to the excessive pepper, I would say "its personal taste" but 6 adults and 2 kids all said they were peppery and kids said they're spicey which is a massive shame.
Considering they are supposedly made to order (following morning after ordering) I enquired about not adding pepper to my next order. I didnt consider it a big thing neither time consuming if anything saves time not worrying about the extra ingredient but instead I was emailed back advising that they could not do this which I find a bit weird considering they are made fresh and someone must look at the order to determine the quantity. On top of this I was recommended the Steak and Blue as an alternative, which isnt cup of tea and isn't really like a...
Read moreWow, wow, wow, wow, wow!!!!! That was my reaction 7 years ago when I first tried the best pasty ever created, and that was the reaction I had on this year's trip to Cornwall too ❤️ We have come 5 years on the bounce with my mother in law, I always make a point of coming in to Padstow to get my laughing gear around the best food ever made by the human hand. Pastry is crisp and golden, filling is flavoursome and of high quality, the meat is cooked to perfection and the whole thing is scrumptious from 1st to last bite. I even search my top and lap for crumbs! My idea of a balanced diet is a chogh pasty in each hand 😜 I could eat the entire days batch alone. And I would, I'd drive the 5 hours just to get a nibble, the outright best. And... Believe me I have tried nearly all of them, this is the undisputable champ! Well done them, the 2016 award needs updating, it should be...
Read moreVisited this bakery and queued for a considerable time because of their large sign outside offering gluten free pasties, breads and confectionery along side advertising their home made pasties. Got to the front of the queue to be told that the gluten free pasties were frozen. Not always an issue if they then bake them to order but the pasties weren't even their own make and they would defrost and warm one for me in the microwave if I waited! As for the breads and confectionery, that was all frozen as well. I could do better in a mainstream supermarket and probably cheaper as well. Now I understand that we coeliacs are a minority group and that businesses have to make a profit. My argument is not what they offered but their misleading advertising and the attitude of the staff. I left without purchasing anything and I...
