Under new management this past year or more, the place, the food and the atmosphere all make it worth a visit. With a homely lounge bar, beer garden and sports bar. Street parking and a large car park nearby, proximity to the River, The Abbey church, the English Bridge and other places of interest. Walking distance from the town and close to supermarkets and a cinema. This pub has everything including a very friendly landlord. Highly recommended. The year's anniversary of the new management and it is going from strength to strength. Musical entertainment, the monthly quiz and a great atmosphere tonight. I've just called in for a late lunch and a quick daytime pint and I had some good, no nonsense food. A pint of Butty Bach shandy, I know sacrilege, was very tasty and not too sweet. I had the Cumberland sausage, mash & peas, gravy boat to add as reqd. Very tasty all round with three large sausages. For dessert I had the apple pie and custard. A lattice pastry crust, caramelized and full of flavour with custard, again served on the side was creamy and more than enough. My meal was finished off with a black coffee, ( with a splash of milk and a chocolate ) and like the other courses it was served, as I prefer, at my pace, not too rushed. Free WiFi, friendly staff and a steady flow of customers. TV available in the beer garden and sports bar, outside seating, again in the garden or at the front of the pub and 3 hours parking opposite the pub. A thoroughly relaxing and pleasant experience that I would recommend on the way back from town or after a stroll by the...
Read moreMy colleague had a curry which looked like a child’s portion with 4 small pieces of chicken. I have an iron stomach and have lived in Asia for years eating food from shacks and yet I’ve never had such a painful and excruciating day as today… I had the chilli carne and my stomach has protested ever since… I have had repeated trips to the loo and it feels like I will still be doing by midnight. Something must be wrong with the food prep at the Crown as I should not have been so ill. Maybe the environmental health need to make a prompt visit.
Your reply is full of apologies and valueless excuses which do nothing to instil confidence for anyone considering dining at your pub.
Your food made me seriously ill and all you can write in essence is ‘we are great at what we do and our food is eaten by many who do not become ill’ I will be escalating my complaint to your brewery and environmental health so there can be a review of what is clearly a sloppily managed food supplier that should be closed until the issues are remedied.
You should be ashamed of the way you have presented your business and consider a new career in something like...
Read moreHad good reports about the food so we decided to try out for our friends birthday. Booked for early evening table ready for our arrival. After deciding what we would like to eat went to the bar and ordered and arranged a tab. Starter's arrive quite quickly and we're all of reasonable quality only comment was that the soup was from a packet. Main course arrived 20mts later which was very disappointing. We had a rump steak M/R, rump steak salad and two 10oz gammon. The first steak was very grisly and burnt in places, Steak salad was steak and lettuce only no other veg what so ever. Lastly the gammon were very salty veg was all frozen don't expect carrots cauliflower and Brockley to come out of a frozen packet. We told the waiter of our grievance to which he took back to the kitchen. We were then offered a round of drinks which we greatfully received. We would like to say that we enjoyed our day/night out and the Crown atmosphere but we all feel that you need to improve your food if you want to compete with pubs doing food with entertainment. Ex...
