Awful service. We were not seen to at the front promptly, we were taken through without a hello/ welcome. We sat down and saw there was a carvery, we were unaware that it was a carvery so we said do we just go up and help ourselves, the staff were unable to answer clearly how everything was. The lady then asked us “ would you like anymore drinks?” We hadn’t even had 1 drink yet! So she was completely unaware of what was going on, she seemed like a robot. We then went up and grabbed a plate to get the roast ( stone cold plates) then a dark haired lady rudely came up to us and asked us to sit back down to the table because there was a party going on and they already were before us. Nobody was even in the que! I then said our booking was at 1pm and we were on time for the booking so I then went on to ask why we had to wait? She couldn’t explain. We sat back down, I was very upset and hungry because we’d been told to wait without explanation. I then went on to ask another lady could we go up now as the dark haired lady could not tell us how long we needed to wait and another girl we asked couldn’t answer either and just ran off!!. When we finally got our food, the gammon was gross all rubbery no flavour. The lamb was nice but nothing special. The potatoes and Yorkshire’s were the best bit. The chef was nice but too slow. Gravy was runny and we felt watched the whole time since asking why we couldn’t go up to eat. The staff then went on to ask others how their meal was without to ask how ours was.had to go to the staff to say to pay and ask for a pudding because Noeone came to us to even see how we were!! We could have just walked out and they wouldn’t have known! All in all worst customer service I have ever had. Food mediocre but you could get a much better roast at Toby carvery without to feel guilty for wanting to go up to eat!!, we won’t be eating here again. Nice looking pub, food average, terrible service, not friendly...
Read moreBeautiful pub, very pleasing to the eye and the food was lovely! The reason for the 3 stars, to what let down our whole experience, was the Customer Service.. The lady who served us was a bubbly delight, and although she forgot a part of my order, it was efficiently resolved as soon as she noticed. We were however left without cutlery for some time, couldn't see the waitress in question so I popped over to the Manager to ask for some when I noticed there was a tray beside her so I asked if its okay to take some as we were not provided with any.. She nodded and continued her conversation with a staff member.
We then get to paying the bill. Unbeknown go us December has a a compulsory service charge for all tables (no matter the size) which I think is a bit cheeky but we would have been happy to pay IF at ANY point we were we told that this was something they did.. This information could have been provided upon booking, when we sat down or even when our order was taken and I feel a level of common courtesy and respect should insist that information being provided prior to placing our food order. It wasn't a lot of money (10% of our bill) but the principle of it and feeling deceived. When we questioned it.. We were greated with quite a hostile response from the Manager and it all fell very awkward very quickly... There was an issue a voucher we presented too and it made us feel as if we were being a nuisance instead of valued customers.. The manager did remove the charge once the voucher was applied however she was almost completely silent and once the last person tapped her card.. She walked off without a word. Quite disgusting behaviour.
We got very little communication all evening, limited table attendance and then for the Manager on duty to be so rude..
We would love to visit again as its a gorgeous setting but I think we will keep exploring all the wonderful rated pubs in the...
Read moreHad a nice lunchtime catch up with a friend..food was nice..left the pub with my friend and a dog that I was looking after..intending to hand over the dog in the car park..as it was 3pm..from no where a convoy of cars appeared in quick succession racing to find a space..the car parked next to me was parked really close so not allowing me access..I asked the woman in the driving seat if she could move forward to allow me to gain entry..why? she asked..so I can get in without bashing your car..she looked to the skies ..as she did I saw the dog owner who was out of his car..so run round to get the dog..and handed the dog over..by this fraction of a minute the woman parked close reversed back again blocking me getting in..so again I asked her..she said when my daughter comes back from school.. I said no..you need to do it now..I've been in the pub and am entitled to be here..you are just parked here to pick up a kid..I've been in the pub today and asked you politely..not sure if it was the scouse twang that got me or the German badge on her car..but things got heated..ended up telling her to shut up in no uncertain terms..ruined the afternoon..wont come back again or could end up flattening a ugly prune faced common trout from a city I love.. The pub manager needs to manage the carpark for paying patrons..and ban the school moms...
