We went for an evening meal on a Sunday. After ringing ahead we were told there was only space in the bar. On arrival it was noticeably empty so we asked to seated in the restaurant, which we were. The inside and courtyard area of this Inn were very well decorated with natural features remaining which was pleasing for us as we like these things. Our order was taken and our starter and drinks arrived in due course, the starter was cleared and the main served in good time. And at this point we were at 4 stars. 😁 All good our mains were cleared upon us finishing. Service then stopped, we waited for a member of staff to come and ask if we required anything else, they didn't come, eventually we had to attracted someone's attention. (Out of the 3 staff chatting near the bar area) a dessert eventually arrived with out the 2 spoons requested. After finishing the dessert we decide we would not bother with a coffee, so again had to beckon a waitress for our bill. As we put our coats on we heard a conversation with a waitress and the only other table now left in the restaurant. A party of 8 who the entire time had been happily chatting away to each other behind us. It seem they had lost track of time, has not been approached by a waitress with a desert menu and had asked for the desert menu, to which they were told that they were to late to order a desert. So lapse service had potentially lost the inn the trade on 8 desserts and the bad feeling of poor service. This is the reason why I am only giving 4 stars. I do recommend the Fox and Coney I just hope you have a better experience than we did.

My wife and I stayed here at the Fox and Coney bed and breakfast for one night. We was at a wedding at cave castle. We tried to book cave castle but it was fully booked. Which we are glad it was or we wouldn't have stopped at this brilliant bed and breakfast/pub and restuarant. The room was presented beautifully. And they paid a lot of attention to detail. They have Amaxon Alexa in the room. Free WiFi. Amazon tv. The wife was impressed with toiletries supplied by The White Company. It was an excellent modern room in a 300 year old Grade 2 listed building. The bathroom had a walk in shower big enough for two with a rain shower. And plush white towels. It was spotlessly clean. I had a full English which was very nice and plentiful and my wife had avocado and poached eggs which she really enjoyed. The girl who attended to us during our stay was very nice and pleasant. I would reccomend this place without hesitation. Can't rate it highly enough.

Stunning. This is one of the best meals I've ever had, I chose the beef wellington as I've never had it and seen it cooked by Chef Ramsey on tv. My god it was incredible the beef was cooked perfectly and the seasoning inside the pastry was sublime. All the flavours moulded together perfectly. I think I make a good mash potatoes I'm an avid cook who added truffle to his mash potatoes. Whoever the chef is. No truffle but he put me to shame I felt like asking how it's achieved clearly need to do more research but the food here was worth every penny. They also have a well stocked bar with lots of different options. We watched the football in a prestige beer garden complete with heat lamps to hold off the cold which was fantastic also. Everything about this restaurant experience was great including the service the waitress is up and down always available and so assertive. Thank you.

Me and the Family popped in to the Fox and Coney just by chance as we where in the area visiting a local attraction for the kids.

We where greeted at the door by a pleasant young lady who showed us to our table. It was a midweek afternoon so it wasn't so busy.

Now I'd of loved to of left a 5 star review but this is the reason I didn't. We where told about new measures in place due to covid, one way system to toilet, hand sanitising and the way their working there new ordering system and it was this ordering system I found completely pointless for someone popping in for lunch.

To view the menu we had to visit a particular link online by scanning a barcode, once we've chosen we then need to scan another barcode to choose drinks. We then have to type the order in Whattsapp and send it to a particular contact number. The person receiving this text was the one who showed us to our table and took a couple of min showing us how to make our order. The frustrating thing is that whilst choosing our food and drinks, she was stood about 4 or 5 metres away so we could hear her phone ping, she walked over to the screen to book in the food and then came over to ask what bread we wanted for the sandwich I ordered. I found this pointless and a hassle, she had already taken a few minutes to chat about the ordering etc, it wasn't busy at all so surely just taking your order verbally would be much easier and could of been done from a distance.

The food was very nice apart from my tuna sandwich, the tuna had a funny taste to it which wasn't bad enough to send back but I have eaten better previously.

The Mrs ordered Chicken Kiev from one of the mains section and she was over the moon with it, it looked very nice and would definitely recommend. My little girl ordered Chicken goujons and chips and again was very happy with it, an empty plate always gives a good indication.

Overall this is a lovely little place for a bite to eat or a meal out, it has lots of character inside with it's open fires and original features.

FOOD ONLY - I have to be brutally honest as this was such a disappointment. We have been here a handful of times, first time around 2 years ago, it was brilliant and every time since it has seem to get worse and worse. Safe to say this was the last chance we gave it and won’t be going back.

To start with, we were given a seat by the bar and the booth seat was absolutely filthy in food and mucky marks My husband actually stopped from sitting down and waited for someone to clean it. We also went with our baby and we asked for a highchair that was absolutely filthy. We cleaned ourselves with baby wipes and the state of the baby wipes was shocking. Safe to say, I didn’t put her in it and had her on my knee, the whole meal.

The vegetarian selection was absolutely Horrendous. We asked for a vegetarian Sunday dinner and the substitute for the meat was cauliflower cheese. But we couldn’t have the roast potatoes, Yorkshire puddings, or gravy. To say I was disappointed was an understatement.

My husband got the tuna steak, Maybe this is to our own preference but it came raw and my husband was quite shocked with that as it wasn’t written on the menu it would be served like that; In addition, he said it was absolutely flavourless.

We had a couple of sides with this such as cauliflower cheese and chips which both came out medium/cold.

I feel the menu is totally off, it is very expensive for what you get.

On a plus the Staff Were extremely kind and friendly. However, There were plenty of staff on and seemed to be standing around near our table with the restaurant not being very busy.

I never leave reviews and hate to leave these sort of ones if I ever do leave a review. However I hope this reaches the right person to be able to improve on these issues, as I will never forget the first time we went and had a lovely meal. Now I honestly wish I had gone to Mac Donald’s and had something from the drive thru at a fraction...

I booked a last minute, one night stay in the master suite at the fox and coney. Staff are very hands on, especially Emily and from what I could see she is a real asset to the place. I really appreciated her taking the time to settle me in for the night. Upon observation i noticed emily was just as friendly and helpful to all customers that walked through the door and great with her staff. It's refreshing to see.

My room was spotless. Well stocked with condements. White company toiletries supplied in the bathroom and big fluffy towels in the bedroom. I found the bed very comfortable. There's plenty of room for a yoga mat at the foot of the bed and the copper bath was very relaxing. There's no air con but there is a good fan provided in the bedroom.

If it hadn't of been for the extremely loud noise from the passing traffic out front and the staff playing music downstairs very early in the morning then I'd of rated a full 5 stars for this place. This is something to take into consideration if your planning on staying in this suite. I left absolutely shattered in the morning and for the price paid i think some earplugs should really be provided to people staying here as from reading other reviews the traffic does seem to be an ongoing issue in the master. The windows aren't good enough to block out the constant vibration of the traffic noise.

Our evening meals we're good and the desserts we're spot on. Chocolate brownie for the win! Plenty of choice when it comes to alcoholic drinks. The pub has a stylish and cosy but light interior capturing the evening sun. There's a great, well lit outdoor area with heaters above all under cover tables. Good parking if you arrive early but the car park can fill quickly if you arrive late on.

Non alcoholic beer is available for non drinkers who are driving which is a plus for us as we'll be visiting again. Lovely...
