We had booked the whole weekend to celebrate my husband's birthday so it was a huge disappointment to me when I saw the shabby room we had been allocated and wished I'd asked to upgrade.||However, when we had to complain about the TV not working to the Receptionist, and was told "that was it" and "we were lucky to have a smart TV in our room, not everyone has," it kind of set the tone for the whole of the weekend.||The bathroom I have to say was spotless, if a little tired and old. The shower was a leaky mess that refused to budge, the shower curtain - inadequate - barely reached the top of the bath. There was old, badly applied mastik in areas I didn't wish to see.||The TV, as I said, didn't pick up any of the apps on the remote and so we had "Freeview" or nothing, so that was annoying because why advertise smart TVs if you then can't supply wired internet or decent wifi to run them?||It was also very old and so small that we could barely see it from the bed, which was shoehorned into the opposite end of the L-shaped room. ||The storage would have been adequate but there were hinges hanging off that made the doors bang when you closed them, and zero hangers. The carpet was old, tired and badly marked.||There was NO aircon in the room.||There was a definite lack of electric sockets for chargers, kindles, etc and the curtains weren't lined, so we woke at dawn with the sun, whether we wanted to or not.||These things might seem picky but the ads for Cave Castle boast "comfort and style", and this was neither.||There was zero acknowledge from the staff that it was a birthday celebration, except ONE thoughtful person in the restaurant who wrote "Happy Birthday" quite beautifully in chocolate, on my husband's pudding plate. For that, we thank you.||The meals were fine. Not great but good. A little over priced considering the quality: My husband had monkfish and chorizo, sans chorizo, and I had a quite badly burnt brisket of beef. It was adequate.||The restaurant staff however, were something else. ||I'm not sure if the owners of Cave Castle are just awful, or pay poorly, but it seemed to us that everyone was new that night, as if there was a high turn-over of staff, which is always a red flag. ||They were all very young and no-one but the Maitre D' had any experience or competence. I asked for a liqueur coffee and it came cold, tasteless and half a pint of cream in it. They didn't charge us for it, thankfully. Drinks came mixed up and not quite right. There was a lot of standing and looking around.||Not just there but in the Bistro, too.||Also, we had to wait an age of the earth after eating to get anyone's attention for the bill, and we weren't the only ones. It seemed that there was only one person working that night though plenty were available.||The Health Club was great except that it was a little dirty and understaffed, again, one person actually working, the rest, for show. ||One entitled woman completely ignoring the 20 or so polite notices NOT to use phones in the pool, decided to anyway, so we had to listen to her entire conversation while trying to read - I didn't want to swim in a place where someone could video me - so that was annoying.||It's a shame those things got in the way of what should have been a really lovely break, and, with a few tweaks and some money spent, would have improved...
Read moreI attended cave castle for my sisters wedding, from the moment i entered the building I found the place spectacular. The venue for the wedding was absolutely brilliant, very spacious and perfect to set everything up for the wedding. The staff kept us all upto date every step of the way. They more then accommodated to any special request and even went above and beyond to make my sisters day special. The ceremony was absolutely beautiful. And the sit down meal was incredible. The staff was brilliant bringing out our food, they seemed very lovely and made sure we was all happy with our meals and we had everything we needed. My nephew decided to switch tables to be closer to his cousin which then the staff catered this and went above and beyond to make this change. They even catered for me to sit at the head table with my sister/the bride. As I said throughout the whole service the staff were incredible. Read moreJust called in to the courtyard bistro for lunch , One of our party is confined to a wheelchair , after following a sign showing courtyard bistro we drove around n around the main building & ended up at the main entrance ? A friendly waitress told me how to get to the Bistro , it was very accessible & not hard to push the wheelchair along the corridors to the Bistro . On first impressions the bistro appeared a bit underwhelming, tired & if i dare say not very clean, we sat near the rear door & the surrounding area wasn't great nor under our table . After reading the menu & deciding what to have i went to the bar to order. Now this is my fault here , but I ordered the sausage ciabatta & a side of fries & asked for no butter . My friends ordered the beef sandwich & the beefy one ( burger) When my food arrived i was handed a sausage Melt , cheese & chutney . I cant eat cheese & would never knowingly order a melt anything . I asked the waitress , who showed no sign of understanding my confusion, why & was told the sausage ciabatta finished at 12 as part of the breakfast menu .. well ok why didn’t she say anything at the time i ordered?? I had the menu in front of me & pointed to the sausage ciabatta when i ordered . I accept this was my initial mistake so i asked for the sausage melt to be wrapped up so that my friend could eat it for his tea . I ate the side of fries I ordered & to be honest they weren't great . My friend’s burger was as he put it average as were the fries . The Beef sandwich was ok . Even though & prob after thinking about it the waitress offered to make me a sandwich all in all we left a bit deflated , after expecting a top experience it was more like eating at an average cafe . Staff seemed friendly enough but no ambience to the place . Like going to a leisure centre cafe . Disappointing Thanks for the response , unfortunately the waitress never once told me the sausage ciabatta was unavailable at the time i ordered it , why would i agree to have it if that had been explained at the till ??? What happened was the waitress decided i had actually meant to order the sausage melt & put this through to the kitchen . An easy mistake to make just as easy in fact as not seeing the clearly opening till 12 option for the sausage ciabatta . Whats not so easy to understand is why the waitress never explained to me the sausage ciabatta wasn't available at the time i ordered it , but would turn into a sausage & cheese melt regardless . Not sure why your waitress would say she told me when i ordered , 100% she didn’t. Lost for words now. Cheers for...
