A Gem of a Coffee House in Freshwater – A Must-Visit!

During our recent holiday on the Isle of Wight, we stumbled upon Freshwater Coffee House, and it turned out to be one of the highlights of our trip. From the moment we stepped inside, we were met with a warm and welcoming atmosphere that instantly made us feel at home.

The coffee was exceptional—beautifully balanced, rich, and full-bodied, a true delight for any coffee lover. It was clear that real care goes into each cup, and it made for a perfect start to our morning. But beyond the fantastic coffee, what really set this place apart was the service.

Traveling with a two-year-old can sometimes be a challenge, but our server went above and beyond to make our little one feel welcome. They thoughtfully provided toy dinosaurs to keep him entertained and even adapted the menu to suit his smaller appetite—such a kind and thoughtful touch that we truly appreciated.

As for the food, it was nothing short of delicious. I had the Poached Eggs, which were perfectly cooked and packed with flavor, while my partner enjoyed a cheese and ham croissant that was buttery, flaky, and just the right balance of savory and indulgent. Every bite was a treat, and it was clear that high-quality ingredients were at the heart of everything they served.

It’s rare to find a place that gets everything just right—great coffee, fantastic food, and outstanding service—but Freshwater Coffee House absolutely delivers. If you’re visiting the Isle of Wight, do yourself a favor and stop by. We’ll definitely be returning on...

A last minute change of plans meant our family of 4 - which includes 1 vegan and 1 vegetarian decided to get a late breakfast. A quick search online and we decided the menu at The Freshwater Coffee House ticked all the boxes. We drove past and saw it was fairly busy which we took as a good sign we'd made the right decision! Once we had parked up and walked back we were told they were full but we were welcome to wait for a table to become available. Seeing the food arriving at some of the tables we knew we wouldn't be disappointed so we took a seat on the comfy sofa and ordered some coffees and a couple of hot chocolates. By the time they were ready, a table had become available so we ordered our food as soon as we sat down. There were plenty of vegan and vegetarian options as well as gluten free. The coffee menu was extensive there were a few plant based milks to choose from. Our food came quickly and it was superb. I had the french toast which was vegan and tasted amazing. My husband had the poached eggs and our 2 teenage sons had pancakes with bacon and maple syrup. There was a strong message regarding recycling and the owners efforts to encourage and assist was nice to see. It was also nice to read 'Our Story' and added to the atmosphere. I'm sad that we only discovered this lovely coffee house so close to the end of our holiday ... we will be going back at least once before we go home. It's good to know you can reserve a table but if you do pop in and find you have to wait, it is...

We loved it. The only disappointing part was not discovering this place earlier on in our stay.

We were fuming that a Needles they said they were closed for coffee way before closing as were desperate for a coffee. Now all I can say is thanks as made us discover this place.

We LOVE good coffee. We had a sit in coffee and the crumble and loved it so so much. The coffee is just perfect.

We then grabbed take away flat whites the next morning... Still just as perfect. We rushed back post a long tiring day at Osborne house and due to traffic, got in 5 min post closing. Despite the machine being in cleaning mode, they very kindly made us coffees and we took a take away tiffin bite. Again tasty.

The next day was our last day sadly. We again went for coffees in the morning and then filled our thermos for ferry ride home as we loved it so so much.

It's not just the coffee and treats that are yum. The people here all so friendly and chatty. They are inspirational and we loved talking to them! If we visit the Isle again, we will make sure to visit here daily as loved it.

Such a chilled informal place! We loved how they welcome all... Young and old. People complaining about kids need to grow up... You were a kid once!

Can't wait to come again and maybe... Be inspired by them to follow our dreams and also open a coffee shop! Thanks so much guys.... We met you 3 days but...

Lovely cafe in Freshwater. Very vegan friendly so would recommend if vegan or just want to try vegan food! We were given a table quickly it seemed like lots of locals come here as everyone seemed to know everyone’s name. The cafe was cute, not many tables so can imagine gets busy quickly. They had board games and colouring in books which some of the children were using. We ordered a white coffee and a decaf oat milk iced coffee. They had many dairy alternative options which was great. For food we ordered eggs benedict and spicy beans and sausage. The sausages were vegan by default which is what I wanted but you can ask for pork. The other menu items looked just as good. For some reason I was expecting my spicy beans to be spicy baked beans but actually it was a mix of broad beans, chickpeas, kidney beans etc. If I had known I would have chosen something else - perhaps the menu could state this rather than just spicy beans. It was nice and a big portion but not spicy at all and because of the types of beans I didn’t enjoy this meal as much. But would recommend if you like those types of beans ! Overall a lovely cafe would come again and it’s in a nice location lots of little shops around.

If you're after a vegan breakfast on the west side of the isle, this place will absolutely do the trick. They do offer meat versions of their sausage dishes, available upon request but be crystal clear about wanting the vegan version just in case, as it could be easy to confuse the two. The same applies to the porridge: make sure to request one of their many plant-based milks to avoid dairy. This cafe is well lit and has a nice family-run atmosphere about it. The owner is a vegan lady and she has her origin story on a giant chalk board by the entrance. Lovely staff and great tasting food. It does take a bit longer to get served when it's busy but the wait is worth it. Recommended!

My friend and I were visiting the Isle of Wight and happened to stumble across The Freshwater Coffee House — what an absolute gem! From the moment we walked in, we were met with the warmest, most personal service. The staff were so friendly and made us feel genuinely welcome. The food? Absolutely spectacular. Everything was fresh, beautifully presented, and full of flavor — you can tell real care goes into what they serve. We left feeling so well looked after and completely satisfied. We’re heading back this week and I honestly can’t wait. Highly recommend this place to anyone in the area — whether you’re local or just visiting, it’s a must-stop!
