Believe me this is not what I expected to write as a review. As a local I was hoping to have found a new hidden gem. I absolutely love the care and attention that goes into beautifully created dishes in these types of restaurants and appreciate it is about the wonderful flavours rather than massive portion sizes.
But first let me praise the staff. Absolutely wonderful and very helpful but allow the diner to get on with a lovely evening without being over attentive. Perfect.
The menu sounds beautiful and is but really what is the point of looking across a lovely vegetable garden to the moors when the selection of veg is not offered to the diner. Would have been lovely to order sides of fresh home grown veggies.
I’m afraid I sent my fish back to the kitchen as it was not cooked through. It was replaced. I was informed that that is how the chef cooks halibut. And if that was the case I would have asked for it to be cooked a little longer. My veg. Two potatoes. And a sprinkle of diced courgette. My hubby had the pork with brassica Brassica = one tiny leaf.
Please oh please let’s have some beautiful veggies to accompany what are beautifully created dishes. I didn’t take any photos as my mobile stays in my bag when I’m out. But the photos already on the reviews before me do not equal the portion size which we had last night. Our portions were very very small. Sadly not somewhere we will visit again.
UPDATE Thank you for the response and apologies for putting halibut rather than turbot. Yes there were small amounts of veggies but please why not offer some beautiful sides of veggies to complement the beautiful dishes created. I was aware of the small portion that I chose for a starter and that is not...
Read moreFirstly, we must apologise that this review comes so long after our visit to Homestead back in November!
We visited for lunch on a Saturday to celebrate our engagement in the North York Moors the day before and Cecily went way above and beyond to make sure our experience was really special, and it absolutely was!
We were seated by the windows at the back of the restaurant, overlooking relaxing views of the rolling hills and changing weather fronts of the North Yorkshire Moors. Cecily then kindly gave us a glass of bubbles each to celebrate our engagement, which was such a lovely gesture. These were followed by great local beers and alcohol free options (I would have sampled the excellent wine menu if only I hadn't been driving...). The menu is seriously exceptional, refined yet down to earth with a focus on seasonal and local produce, and every single course of the three we ordered totally exceeded our very high expectations. Finally, (as you can probably already tell by the above) the service was truly wonderful, warm and friendly, Cecily really couldn't have done more for us.
This restaurant is really, really special. It is the perfect place for a celebration but also any other excuse (especially given what good value it is for the quality of food served) to experience what that Cecily and her partner have created here, which I have no doubt will just keep getting better and better… Homestead has got to be on its way to a Michelin star!
Thank you so very much guys - we can't wait to visit again next time we’re...
Read moreWhat a find, we shall make the effort to go again. Situated in Goathland in the north Yorkshire moors, it's a good way from home. We did drive past but just managed to spot it as we passed. Everything is just right. The approach along a simple path, an old pleasant building with excellent signage, easy parking. We had one waitress for the whole meal and she was faultless. Quietly and gently spoken, she remembered who had ordered what, explained what were the ingredients of each dish and served faultlessly and unobtrusively, answering questions with ease. Four choices in each lunchtime course all looked delicious so choosing wasn't easy. A delicious bonne mouche arrived whilst we awaited starters. Vegetarian choices in each course. Each course was unusual and intricate and very mouth watering. Unusual ingredients and combinations made each course a pleasure. The restaurant overlooks the vegetable garden with views beyond over the moors, a wonderful spot especially for walkers. We had to give way to a clutch of baby birds crossing the road at one point and 2 sheep had claimed the road nearby. An interesting and attractive area. Spotlessly clean with good toilets. Not sure if there was wheelchair access. Quite highly priced but worth...
