The Mallyan Spout Hotel is a small hotel ('Inn') in the village of Goathland, in the North Yorks. Moors. On arrival, we were greeted in the reception area, which is in a small alcove. We had booked a two-night stay in a "Valley View" room, which was on the first floor (Room 11). There is no lift, but assistance was offered with carrying our bags. ||The room was light and spacious, well furnished, and with pleasant views over the Esk Valley. The bathroom featured a bath and separate shower. There was the usual supply of tea and coffee in the room, and a 'Nespresso' machine with a limited range of coffees. As is usual in an old building (it is of 19th century construction), the floorboards creaked somewhat.||We decided to have a pre-dinner drink in the bar, but found it to be quite small and cramped, so we took our drinks into one of the adjoining small lounges. One of the staff commented that we were dressed 'quite fancy' ( I was wearing a suit and tie). I replied that I was hoping for 'fancy' service, to which they replied that ' You have come to the wrong place'. Presumably, this was a 'joke'.||We had opted to dine in the hotel on both evenings. The dining room overlooks the garden and provides a pleasant view. |The evening meals were well presented and offered vegetarian and gluten-free options. However, on the second evening, the soup was served cold (not merely tepid, but quite cold). The waiting staff promptly took it away and it was soon replaced, but this shouldn't happen. Also, requests for artificial sweeteners had to be repeated and the restaurant bill was not forthcoming on the second evening, despite being requested. The restaurant was not overly busy, so I'm unclear as to why the service was less efficient on the second evening.||The hotel is adjacent to a public footpath which leads to the 'Mallyan Spout' (a small waterfall). It is a steep walk down and a challenge coming back, but worth seeing. The village of Goathland was used as the fictional village of 'Aidensfield' in the t.v. series ' Hearbeat' and memorabilia can be purchased in the village shops. There is also a steam railway from Goathland to Whitby.||Overall, it was a pleasant stay in this small...
Read moreBooked Room 11 as an overnight stay for my partners bday prior to a day trip to Whitby the following day. From the moment we arrived to the minute we departed we couldn’t fault a single thing. On arrival parking was straight forward with plenty of room. Check in was quick with the lady on desk very polite and professional explaining where everything was, what time breakfast, restaurant & bars were open prior to showing us to our room!!||OMG!!! Room 11, not cheap but worth every penny for a special occasion. Full suite with beautiful four poster bed and everything you could need. Requested a bottle of Prosecco on arrival which was there with two glasses and also the nice added touch of some cake with ‘happy birthday’ iced onto the plate they sat on. View from room was wonderful. ||Once settled in we had a quick drink in the bar prior to asking advice on how to get to the Mallyan Spout waterfall nearby. A 20 minute downhill walk was well worth the end views. The waterfall and surroundings are simply stunning. Lots of photos and from there we took the ‘more hilly’ walk to Beck Hole where we found a quant ale house ‘Birch Hall Inn’ for refreshments.||Arriving back at the hotel time for a quick change before heading down for evening meal which was simply exquisite. The starter of mushrooms was fresh and flavoursome and the scallops were cooked to perfection. On to mains we both had steak which were cooked to exactly to our liking (my was medium rare and melted in my mouth) with beef tomato to die for (my partner doesn’t even like tomato’s but loved it). 10/10.||A fantastic night followed even hearing owls across the moors in the dead of night.||Next morning breakfast was every bit as good as the evening meal with the complimentary Prosecco with breakfast a wonderful touch. The ‘young’ waitress we had was made for customer service work and an absolute credit. Whoever’s cooking deserves a raise!||We can not recommend this place enough. Very well done EVERYONE. From the cleaners (place was spotless) through to bar staff, waitresses right up to hotel Manager. BRAVO! 10/10||A seasoned traveller who’s stayed across the world in many 5 star hotel. You should...
Read moreMyself and a number of family and friends attended the hotel for the purpose of my son’s wedding on 19th October. I personally stayed there for two nights in total. On first entering the hotel the day before the wedding I very quickly became aware of the fact that this was going to be a good choice of venue. The staff were happy and smiling very polite and extremely helpful. Whilst having a drink in the bar I encountered Gav who is the Bar Manager, a great guy who spent quite a lot of time chatting to me and immediately instilled great confidence that I was dealing with professionals. I also met Kelsie who was a member of the bar staff, a very friendly happy young lady with a great sense of humour and a cheeky smile. Eleanor the wedding co-ordinator is without doubt a “ one off “. If you want a wedding carried out to an extraordinary high standard by the ultimate professional then look no further. I had few laughs with her and nothing was too much trouble. Other members of staff I encountered were Sarah, Grace, Maddie, Georgia and Claire, they were all happy smiling and very approachable and genuinely nice people. I need to mention Joe the General Manager, an extremely pleasant young man with an obvious talent in the hospitality industry. Although my dealings with him were somewhat limited I knew that should I need him he is very approachable and operates a sort of open door policy which is very reassuring. The food, as a guest is top notch and for a wedding party was of a mega high standard and the accommodation is outstanding The wedding was a great success thanks to the staff and I thank them all for going the extra mile to make it a mega...
