I came here with my elderly mum and 3 young daughters. I wasn't expecting much due to past experiences with Greene King venues, but I honestly think this place has hit a new low, even by Greene King standards. We arrived and were served by a nice young lady, who was extremely polite and helpful. We ordered drinks, mains and deserts straight away. Our drinks came, but with no straws for the kids. I asked for some at the bar, and my suspicions were raised about the place when I was told that they didn't have any. So we waited with our drinks, and we waited, and waited, and waited. An hour later we were approached by a member of staff to ask what we would like with our meals instead of corn, as they had "run out". 30 minutes later our meals arrived. The kids meals had beans instead of the peas we had ordered, the meal that was brought for my 5 year old was an adults meal that was bigger than she was, and there was an extra meal brought out and put at a place on the table that no one was sitting at. Even at this point I wasn't impressed, but it is what it is. Then, I noticed the same plate of food that was taken from my daughter was given to the man on the table next to us! I know this as the plate had a chip out of it. We ordered ice cream for the kids which arrived soon enough, although unfortunately it was 3 vanilla with strawberry sauce that came, as opposed to the 3 chocolate ice cream with chocolate sauce that was ordered. You come to a place like this and dont expect anything too spectacular, but I was genuinely shocked by this place. Not only will I not be coming back here again, but I will now avoid Greene King venues all together. They're...
Read moreHaving lived in the area for 30+ years, we have used The Hungry Fox a number of times, but, despite numerous managers/owners over this time, sadly it's never really been made anything special. It's in a great location, good catchment area, but I could never really say it's a great pub - there are far better places to go and eat locally. Last Friday, after going to the cinema, we decided to book a table at The Hungry Fox for dinner. Table booked for 7.15pm, arrived on time, selected a main from a very limited/reduced menu, and got ourselves a drink...........then at 8.20pm, the waitress came over to advise that one of our chosen main's ( a pie) was not available!. Surely any reasonably run and managed establishment would know about their food availability, especially as this was a reduced menu anyway ?, when the order reached the kitchen (i'm guessing, within 2-3 minutes of placing our order ?). We asked for our bill, and decided to leave. A lady, who I guess was the acting manager came over to apologise, and said our drinks would be covered on the house, but what we really wanted was our dinner. I really don't know why this place isn't better, but surely Green King must be considered the "experts", so why can't they make this work?. I don't think i will be able to try using this place again, especially not for food, as by reading a number of reviews on here, our experience on this particular evening, is not unusual. Will be going elsewhere for food...
Read moreWe pre-booked a table for 9 for the 29th of December, and as requested we supplied a list of what people wanted from the festive menu so that our food was not delayed.
We arrived at 1pm as booked and were seated promptly, and drinks ordered at the bar... But the ensuing 2 hours were terrible, we waited 45 minutes for our starters, prawn cocktail and soup... Not an insurmountable task and the festive menu has been available for some time now, so you would expect they knew how to prepare it promptly especially knowing ahead of time when we were arriving and what we wanted to eat..
About 10 minutes after our starters our mains began to arrive, albeit over the course of the next 30 minutes... And even then one dish was missing and the staff seemed clueless as to what it was, after complaining frequently to the staff we finally got out final meal. Yes 50 minutes for 9 people to get their mains.
I wouldn't even call this an acceptable waiting time during a "busier than anticipated lunch time" as one of the staff told us gesturing over the restaurant that had about 50% of its tables available.
We didn't even bother to wait for our pudding as we had no idea how much longer that would have taken, and we had realtives with trains to catch. We did complain and we were offered a reduction on our bill, but no reduction in cost can make up for a terrible dining experience. No manager was available to speak to.
Definitely will not be...
