The John Francis Basset in Camborne offers the classic Wetherspoons experience but with a local touch that makes it stand out. The building is spacious, and the ambiance is warm, with a nice balance between traditional pub decor and a modern vibe. The staff are generally friendly, attentive, and quick to serve, even during busy times.
The food is standard Wetherspoons fare, offering good value for money. The menu has plenty of options, from hearty pub classics to lighter bites. While it may not be gourmet, it’s always satisfying, and the portions are generous. The breakfast options are particularly good if you're looking for a solid start to your day.
The pub also has an excellent selection of reasonably priced drinks, with a great variety of beers, ales, and spirits. Their coffee is surprisingly decent for a pub chain too.
On the downside, like many Wetherspoons locations, it can get crowded and noisy, especially during peak hours or weekends. It’s not always the place for a quiet meal, but it’s great for a lively atmosphere or a casual drink with friends.
Overall, if you're in Camborne and want a reliable, affordable meal or a drink, The John Francis Basset is a...
Read moreReally revolting hygiene, filthy cutlery, my arms were sticking to the table (and that was at one that looked clean) - odd for a early morning breakfast where the table is still covered in alcohol from the night before. However, the food was great and tasty for price, quick to arrive despite the number of customers - possibly why it's so popular. Disappointed no eggs Benedict (well no hollandaise sauce) but with the volume of customers, I'm not surprised. They really need better cleaning and collecting old plates from tables though. They managed to provide a very, very effective and hygenic service during the return from covid restrictions - so not sure why they have slipped back to filthy tables, glasses, mugs and cutlery. The staff that are collecting plates and cleaning also seem totally unable to "see" either. Shame, as some of the staff are truly excellent. I do love the place though hahaha and the hotel. All I can think of is...
Read moreDrinks are a lot cheaper than anywhere else in town. Good atmosphere and plenty of door staff so if there is a problem it's sorted quickly. If you're too drunk they will not serve you more alcoholic drinks which is a good thing for those of us out for a meal or a drink without being hassled. There is a small smoking area out the back which is secluded and safe with tables and benches etc so I don't understand why they let smokers who are drunk smoke out the front. It's always a hassle walking past drunk smokers outside a pub at night. I say this as a smoker. Food is pretty good and the prices are very fair so all in all a cheaper night out and a safe...
