The Kings Arms.

The name comes from the period of the English civil war. Reading the bumf in the menu; tells the story of a battle held around the area between the Parliamentarians and Royalist troops. It is really worth a read and gives you a feel for this traditional old hostilery.

So, now on to the grub and the pub. Its a busy little place. When we entered, tables all around were reserved. Dont let that put you of. There was no standing at the bar waiting here. As soon as we entered. A friendly welcoming face came from behind the bar. "food" was our war cry. We where then ushered to a table. Quickly our drinks order was filled and the food was from the main menu to the waitress's pad. Very shortly after out came the starters.

The service was second to none. Freindly polite, with recomendations for the day and always a smile.

The food was well cooked pub fair. Tasty and lots of it. A fine pint of local ale supported the food. It was busy but still a good place to hold a chit chat. There was never a push to get you moving on your way.

There was a feeling of letting you get on and enjoy a relaxed meal and good conversation.

This is really worth a visit. On the map it looks like parking may be a problem, but no, look closely and you'll see a fairly decent car park with plenty of space.

Village pubs can generally be a bit & miss - bit this one is a BIG HIT!! Excellent food, in fact I think the Sunday roast we all enjoyed here was the best one I've ever had away from home! The meat was perfectly cooked as were the roast spuds and in fact everything else was too. And with Cornish hospitality comes Cornish portions, very plentiful quantities of everything. The landlord & landlady are very warm & welcoming, of our group of 6 only one is a Cornishman born & bred (me), everyone else is 'foreign', but it made no difference, we were all treated equally, as is the Cornish way!! While we're only in the area for a short while, we will certainly be going back, and I would advise anyone staying in the area to give this place a try, you won't be disappointed!! And frankly I don't give a rat's about so-called programmes like Four in a Bed, the whole damn thing is staged anyway. My reviews are based solely on personal experience, and my experience of The King's Arms is 5 star!! Keep it up Sal, you're doin a...

I recently called in The King's Arms for tea with my family in the hope of getting some food. We were greeted by a nice man behind the bar who informed me there could be a 1/2hr wait, which was fine. He took our drinks order and brought them over and that was it. The lady behind the bar took everyone else's orders from their tables but ignored our table, it felt because we didn't book, we didn't deserve table service. I had to order from the bar instead. The food came and it was ok, it was not amazing, the veggie burger wasn't anything to write home about. We did read good reviews before we called in but we did not have the same service/experience others have had. Apart from the first man we saw who accommodated us, we found the other staff to be rude. We won't be recommending the King's Arms to anyone. No one came to check if the food was OK and and no came to see if we wanted more drinks. We couldn't wait to leave in all honesty. It looks very inviting from the outside but look can...

This is a fantastic traditional pub. Food is excellent with a good selection on the menu. Sizable portions with very respectable menu and really friendly staff. There was a very minor hickup with the order. Main came before starters. But they quickly turned the situation round and the staff were fantastic, apologetic and quick to correct this small mistake. The food was extremely tasty, I went with a very traditional prawn cocktail and home made steak pie. The prawn were very fresh with a really flavour some sauce. Filling the large bowl they came in. The pie was a massive portion of taste. A recommended must visit for a meal. Its busy so look to book a table. Then go in di e and if you can, stay and enjoy the atmosphere and a few pints or glasses of wine. There is fairly good parking close to the hostilery. Go in be welcomed and enjoy.

We had a lovely stay here, it started with the prompt and friendly communication with Sally prior to our stay. The very warm welcome she extended to us on arrival. A free upgrade of our room which was clean comfortable and homely as well as Sallys genuine desire to chat and interact with us. We were lucky enough to stay on a Tuesday evening and be invited to join a very long established community quiz night. The atmosphere was great, we throughly enjoyed being part of it. The parking available was essential to us and the breakfast included in the price, cooked by Sally was well presented, tasty and plentiful. We would have no hesitation in recommending this 17th Century coaching Inn and Sallys very warm hospitality. Thank you very much Sally 👍
