July 24, called in to get some food and a cheeky pint of cider before the England Holland game came on👍 Well it was a Wednesday, so we thought were would go for the Build a Burger special😋 Choose your choice of burger, we went large for an extra pound aswell! Then you have a choice of 3 extras with the burger👌 Really enjoyed this, oh and a couple of pints of Thatchers Berry cider😋 lovely!

April, called in again today for a late dinner and a few pints of Thatchers Berry cider👍 We had the same dinners again👌 Gammon, eggs and chips, plus Hand battered Cod and chips. Lovely food again😋 Though inflation has got to their prices now, They have gone up slightly, but still very good value. Though it must of cost the company more money to reprint all the menus!😱

Still great value on comparison to other places to eat👍

January 5th 2024, 12.30pm We called in again for our dinner today, thought it would a lovely treat. We loved the food last time we visited, so we ended up ordering the same meals again👌👍😋 Had a lovely pint of Thatchers Berry cider, my partner chose an Earl Grey tea. She had Hand made battered fish and chips and I had the Gammon egg and chips meal. The service was brilliant again, food all freshly cooked, came out quite quickly, for a Friday dinner time. It didn't seem long at all, as we relaxed, chatted and started to enjoy our drinks😋

The food was very tasty, very hot and plenty of it, we really enjoyed it again.

Next time we will try something else from their extensive menu👍 The value for money is so good, you have to come and try it out😀

First visit. We always walk past The Messenger pub with the dog and view the menu boards they have displayed, saying we should try this out!

Well, today we were doing it and came down for a late afternoon dinner.

This is a massive venue! Lots of areas to sit and tables, stools and even a large outdoor area. And, they have a fantastic display of huge TV's, probably 4, that you can view from wherever you sit. So if your a sports fan? It's a great place to eat and drink and watch something.

We had a very friendly greeting by the landlady at the bar. where we chose our meals from the 2 for £11.50 range. Gammon, eggs, chips tomato and peas, then for my partner, she had Hand battered Cod, chips and choice of peas and a side order of curry sauce.

We helped ourselves to accompaniments from the side of the bar and headed back to our table. We chose a lovely Thatchers Dark Berry cider, which is a lovely pint! Plus a large cup of tea.

Well in no time at all after sitting down and chatting, our meals arrived! My eyes lit up as the plate sizes were huge! Lots of food on each plate, which surprised me, for what it cost.

The plates were piping hot, a good sign! The food was fantastic, very tasty. Best Gammon I have tasted for a very long time! My eggs were very hot and runny👍 chips were crispy and nice and hot too!

My partner Hand battered Cod was simply delicious! Its like the batter just melted in your mouth😋

We was very impressed with the quality of their food, value for money was brilliant! We travel a lot, eat in different places and countries! Some places are disappointing, as you expect nicely prepared food, temperature hot, and tasty.

I would recommend The Messenger to have food in, we will be leaving the dog at home more often and trying more from their menu.

Was part of a large booking for a celebration and to say it was poorly managed is a major understatement. Some people arrived a bit sooner but a large group of us, including the two who made the booking arrived a little bit later and we'd barely had a chance to take our coats off and sit down before food started being brought out (when complained we were told they had asked if everyone was here and ready which was a complete lie). It then took nearly an hour to bring all the meals out; someone actually timed it from first to last plate and it was 50 minutes. There was also no structure to it; they'd bring out one or two plates and one table would get one and then another table (reserved section is lots of tables close together). It was about 5-10 minutes on average per plates coming out; to put in perspective my partner received his meal fairly early on, our child received his about 15 minutes later, and mine was one of the last ones out and it was very similar for most of the tables. Essentially had to decide if was going to start eating when nobody else at the table had food or wait for everyone to have their meal and theirs be stone cold (not to mention had to wait a while for forks and salt). By the time mine came out my partner sent his back because it had gone cold and was a quality issue (our child tried his best to eat his but said it tasted gross and left most of it) and by the time it came back out we realised there was a quality issue with mine and we honestly just called it. The gentleman who had originally been bringing out the food had been very rude; was sighing and rolling his eyes when walking away and as soon as people started complaining about food quality and service he sent someone else out to deal with it all despite telling us he's the manager. The only reason I'm giving 2 stars is because the person he sent out afterwards did try her best to rectify the problems by redoing food and refunding uneaten meals (only credit to the pile of problems and was brought over from another pub). I believe the only person to not get his uneaten meal refunded was my partner as they had redone it and he 'chose' not to eat it; he wasn't going to sit and eat his meal when myself and our child were sitting there hungry. At the end of the day, a large amount of people there didn't end up eating including the birthday boy. The two ladies working were lovely so a 5 star for them. However everything else was disappointing. We waited over 25 mins for a burger and cheesy chips. It was not very busy either. Wednesday deal build your own burger £5, so a good price. The burger was overcooked. Dimly lit which helped to hide the dust, and bits on the floor under the table. The worst was the visit to the ladies toilets. They are grim! It does not look like they have had a good scrub in a long time. The floors in cubicles were black. Lots of free parking. Level access. Good deals throughout the week. We won't be going back and do not recommend.

Edit I did not mention onion rings in my review! There was a misunderstanding as they were not in the burger. Your timer is obviously not...
