Visited on May day bank holiday Sunday, naturally it was very busy which is great to see. However, considering how busy it was there wasn't enough waiting on staff.

We didn't have an issue getting served at the bar but our food was not to standard.

We ordered 2 beef roasts, a chicken roast and a starter. At £15.00 each, I expected much better quality. They took roughly 30 minutes to arrive. To be fair the beef and yorkshire pud was OK but the rest of it was poor. The potatoes were really small and not enough of them, the parsnips were over cooked and the carrots were frozen rather than homecooked. Once you moved everything from the stack it was evident that they fill the plate with peas to make it look more.

My husbands chicken was a piece of deep fried chicken on the bone, not what I'd expect on a Sunday lunch. There also wasn't enough gravy. My mother in law asked 3 times for more gravy, she'd virtually finished her lunch by the time it arrived. We also ordered a side of cauliflower cheese - it was pitiful. Tiny little florets with a watery bland white sauce poured over it. I didn't taste any cheese.

Had anybody come to ask how our meals were, I'd have complained there and then.

Whilst I appreciate it was busy this shouldn't be at the detriment of quality or service.

I won't be eating here again and I certainly don't recommend it if you're looking for a Sunday lunch.

The photo shown is literally how my husbands chicken dinner arrived, as you can see, it lacks gravy, there was a smidgen in there somewhere. The gazillion peas were under the yorkshire pud. Wish I'd have taken a photo of the cauliflower cheese, it was a...

Nice pub. They squeezed us in, last minute, for a table of 5 adults, 4 kids and 2 teens = 11. I tried or order using the app (as I was blocked in on both sides by my party) but we were sat on table number 40 and the app only lets you order up to table 37! So I limboed under the table to get to the bar. The menu was great - very wide selection of all your favourites. Our order included a 'Dirty dog': pork and chill sausage (frankfurter style) with cheese and crispy onions, chips, salad and coleslaw but crucially without the pulled pork in BBQ sauce that's listed in the menu. However, when it arrived it had the pulled pork on it! This was unacceptable to my teen son (we knew it wouldn't be and that's why we asked) so I asked for a new one. They obliged and were very nice about it, but when the new one came (quite swiftly) it didn't have the onions on it! Nevermind. He was ravenous by this point and ate it. In fact he said it was delicious and the chips were fries which are also his favourite. Great, one satisfied teen. He also had recourse to use the toilet for the disabled and was pleased with what he found. We're not used to the loud music, preferring places with a quieter atmosphere (we're too old) but we soon got used to it. The staff were great too, very helpful, chatty with the kids. I had fish and chips which come with tartare sauce (but only a tiny pot) and mushy peas. It was yummy. And I still had room for sticky toffee pudding with custard which was also yummy if a bit...

Absolutely disgusting. Firstly - the bar staff couldn't pour a pint properly

Secondly - I ask Ed for an empty glass- It was BEYOND DIRTY!! 5 GLASSES LATER and I still didn't use the 5th glass given.

Thirdly - the food when being brought to the table was a disaster - the runners had no idea what food they had - whether it was medium mixed or well done ect. They didn't know any edits that's where done to the food when it had been ordered. Absolutely shocking.

Fourthly - the food was so over cooked it was beyond its normal colour. Steak was so chewy and just black. The chops where rock hard and cold. 5he presentation of the food was shocking. The onion rings has been battered with the onion skin STILL ON!!

The only thing I can say that was good was - the 2 waitress that clearly had passion in her job. Checked if we was OK. Made sure we had everything. Kept popping her head round. Fair play to her.

Really need to think about getting staff from bar - runners - even management on some sort of hospitality food industry course because they have no idea what they are doing.

As for the chefs they need to requalify because considering it was bought in or microwaved food and they cannot cook it even half decent. They need to train up!

At least the chocolate cake and presentation of the desserts was to a good standard - fair play to the desserts chef.

Absolutely avoid. Cheap and definitely...

We had our staff team meal last week and have been to the New Albion several times since it has changed management. We’ve had various meals, particularly enjoying the lamb, steak, loaded fries and chicken feast. This has been the place my family have been going for years, back to the original Albion days. It took a serious dip as the Cook House but since Stephen & Jake have taken over, it’s regained its atmosphere and charm. I approached Stephen about supporting Halton Cancer Support, a local charity and he was very eager to get involved. He sought opinion and support from the public and began to create a relationship with our work, supporting our annual 5K event. They couldn’t do enough to help and support us. They elevated our event, extending it into the evening, attracting new supporters for our charity and new customers in their lovely pub. We’ve enjoyed great food and drinks every time we’ve been. This has lead to me booking for a party of 18 near to Christmas and my family are booked in for Christmas Day lunch. I don’t think we would have engaged as a charity or returned as a family without the warmth and friendliness of Stephen, Jake, and their team. Thank you for bringing some joy back to an old Widnes favourite, and for bringing it back to life with your own added sparkle.

We have lunch with a group of friends at this pub on Sunday afternoon. We order traditional British pub food like fish and chips, carvery, sausage with potato mash, stout and bitter, etc.. The food quality is apparently better than chain pub brands. Besides, the staff are nice and helpful too. Of course, it is also reflected in slightly higher prices of food and drink. You can apply for a membership which offers a 20% discount. Highly recommended;
