Warning: They don't allow children! I must say, despite the view, this is the worst pub experiences I have ever had.
An honest summary: *No kids allowed, *They wrote 'No kids!' on my receipt! See pic *Extremely rude, *Rather dirty, *Toilets are outside and aren't cleaned! *Benches aren't maintained so most are covered with bird droppings, *Outside area riddled with dog poo
More detail:
The moment I walked in, they quickly yelled at me saying that I wasn't allowed to bring my 2 year old son in the pub despite it being midday. I confirmed with the is owner that it isn't the law (as you're not allowed under 18's past 21:00) and she said, and I quote "I don't care about the law, we don't want kids in here at all. Now what do you want to order?" Furthermore, the mother of the bride for the wedding I was attending, booked a handful of the tables and because we ran 10 minutes late, they gave the tables away.. And we paid for it too!! We explained that we tried to call but there is next to no signal nearby but they didn't care.
It wasn't just the above reasons that made me hate this pub, it was the extremely rude staff, the poor cleanliness, the atmosphere, and I asked for a cordial with water which they charged £3.60!
After travelling for 5 hours to get to the church, I had to feed my son and this is what they wrote on my receipt!! (If you can't see the picture, they...

I'd previously left a 5 star review for the New Inn when it was run by different management. At that time the landlords were very hospitable & welcoming and the home-cooked food was great.
However, visiting yesterday evening was a disappointment. We'd been recommended to eat there by a local business where we were staying but the fish pie I had was more like a leek pie ( I did fine one prawn!) and the carrots and broccoli were hard. Unfortunately I left my meal but no-one asked how the food was.
My friend had the macaroni cheese and while that was alright, he was unwell afterwards!
Such a shame :-(
Previous review....
We were staying just a 4-minute walk away at School farm B&B and the New Inn very quickly became our 'local.'
The new management Vikki and Spike are terrific hosts and they deserve every success.
We ate here 3 out of 4 evenings and the food menu was varied with plenty of choice for vegetarians and the portions were plentiful.
Sit outside and you'll be rewarded with breath-taking views over Blagdon lake.
If you're looking for a cosy, friendly village pub, then this is it.
We're already looking forward to visiting...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy Wife and I visited the New Inn twice twice this month hoping the second visit would be better than the first. The Pub & Setting looks grand and to sit outside is wonderful. No better pub view in the S.West. Its only when you go inside that things start to go down hill. Firstly the staff there are very unfriendly to the point i gave up trying to make a conversation. The lady behind the counter gives you the impression that she is doing you a favour and would be happier to go into the back and carry on her conversation. A couple came in just before me and when they asked if there was a table she mumbled something about "have a look yourself upstairs there might be" Not good. To make things worse all the tables in the pub are reserved making it impossible to have a drink should it be raining outside. I doubt if i will go back. I would be much happier getting served next time...
