We were staying in Wedmore for a few days and booked a table at the New Inn. When we went in we had a very friendly greeting from the locals who were in there. There was a good choice of ales (which were kept very well), ciders, wines, spirits and soft drinks. We were served at the bar by Angie who was also very friendly. We confirmed we had booked to eat and almost everyone advised us to try the steaks. Having not ordered steak in a pub for 10 years as it was never cooked how I'd asked, I was a bit reluctant. However, I was persuaded and told Angie how I would like it cooked, with my partner choosing a burger. The food arrived having been cooked by the landlord Alex who was also very friendly. Well I have to say that the steak really was excellent and cooked exactly how I'd asked. My partner also said his beefburger was excellent. If we return to Wedmore we will definitely be paying another visit and would have no problem recommending this pub. Thank you Alex, Angie and the locals for making us...
Read morePlace was not busy. Waited 1 hour 45 for food. It is pub grub, stick chips in a fryer, over cook the meat... it doesn’t take that long.
Menus said burger came with salad. This means the bit of lettuce and tomato in the bun is a “salad”.
Waitress asked if we wanted burgers with mushy peas or garden peas. Sounded like a choice not an extra to be added to the bill.
Soda water (tap water + gas) is 3.50 a pint. Splash of lime cordial was 50p. £4.00 for something that’s costs pennies.
This combined left us feeling cheated and robbed. Tried complaining but the last £1.00 on the Bill was contested.
The second star on this review was because the waitress that served us was excellent, she was visibly embarrassed by what had happened. The garden has very good heating and protection from the wind and rain. The quality of the produce and cookery was...
Read moreI eat and drink in the New Inn regularly and the food is consistently of an excellent quality. I feel compelled to reply to Tunde's poor review of a couple of months ago. I have had the fish and chips on many occasions and it has been cooked to perfection - not overcooked, so nice and moist, but certainly not raw. A hair on the plate? Not from the chef, as he doesn't have many to spare (and they are very short) As for friendly locals - I know that walking into a pub where you possibly don't know anybody can be intimidating, and people can seem unfriendly, but I can assure you that is not the case. If you want to come back Tunde I will happily buy you a pint - not sure how we'll arrange that but I'm sure we...
