Our very first visit here and it's an hidden gem! The sun was shining and it felt quite warm so we decided to have lunch in the garden. We were told that there would be a 50 minute wait...so hubby bought a couple of drinks and a couple pkt of crisps to keep us going while we waited! This is obviously a dog friendly pub/beer garden and a few dogs did get a bit ratty but they were soon sorted out. Unlike a couple of mischievous children that were soon taken to the car! Our food arrived and was definitely worth the wait!! Hubby had ham, double egg, chips and peas..whereas I went a bit exotic with the Pimm's chicken, mint, cucumber and strawberry salad. With a side of sweet potato fries. The salad could have done with more strawberries...but it was absolutely delicious and I would highly recommend it!! The disabled toilet needs a little updating but is adequate if you don't need to use the wheelchair for everything! The emergency pull cord should be 3mm from the floor...incase someone should fall. The handle was also broken. This can all be easily rectified. I'm looking forward to another visit sometime soon :)

We have stopped here twice. Both occasions we have had a nice experience and tasty food. I didn't take any pictures of the food it seems as both times we were out for walks and just enjoying the scenery and country. The picture below was taken from our pub bench seat just outside of this friendly Robin that came and sat right next to us for a while which was lovely. The first occasion we came we knew the pub was at the end of a walk and when we go there we weren't necessarily planning on eating. We saw how cosy and busy it was and the had pub classic baskets of things with chips so we asked if we could be accommodated and they found us a table. I had sausage and chips and I think my partner had scampi maybe. They were both lovely and just the right amount. A generous portion without feeling rolly polly. The second time with drove here in nice weather and knowing we could get some nice pub grub. We both had fish and chips and shared some onion rings. It was all great again. Plus the views were the lovely ones I have shared below.

A superb spot for a pub. Beautiful surroundings and views. Lots of walks to enjoy. The pub itself is clean with plenty of room for multiple groups. On one visit they were hosting a wedding reception in one space as well as everyone else without any sign of fuss or fluster. It provides a thoughtful welcome to families, ramblers and particularly dog walkers. There are boot scrappers at the door and dog water bowls at every table outside. There is a good selection of drinks including beer direct from the barrels - all well kept. The food is well presented and quickly prepared. Staffing is to an appropriate level and they are friendly, swift and helpful. Pricing is about where I would expect it to be for such a popular establishment. One of my favourites.

What an absolute disgrace! We went here to celebrate a family birthday, we were booked in and had a table of 15. We appreciated we were a large table so expected things to take slightly longer. It started out nicely enough but once food started to be ordered things jus went from bad to worse. Firstly the waitress we had was extremely rude, huffing and sideways glaces with a look of distain if someone wasn't quite ready to order when it got to them. However we persevered and the food order was taken. When the starters came out, one of the starters had asked if the balsamic vinegar had olive oil with it for the cured meat and bread starter which we were told, yes no worries it will. When it arrived however no olive oil in sight and when mentioned to waitress she huffed and then said it fine il take it to the kitchen to get you some and she left with a huff. The croquettes I had came out and I had 2 very small croquettes that were both cold and drowned in herb mayonnaise. One of the other starters had also asked for an additional piece of bread as there was only one served with there starter of parfait, which was told was fine. Then the mains started to arrive, the roasts were sub standard with meats being so finely cut they were almost see through, the potatoes were only just cooked and all the veg was cold and stodgy. One of the mains ordered was beef bourguignon, which for some reason came out with pieces of pork in it, when questioned they said it wasn't pork it was bacon. We showed the piece of pork that clearly wasn't bacon again she huffed walked away, and she them came back and told us the cost for that meal had been removed from the bill. My main had been the Prince of Wales burger which I was told was pork, stilton, bacon and mushrooms, that I was very much looking forward to, unfortunately the bag was soggy and the food stone cold, also the cheesy garlic bread I had as a side was cold and had clearly been microwaved as came old as one lump all stuck together. The 5 kids cheese burgers also all came out cold to which the kids barely ate any of it. As you can imagine at this point we were not prepared to order any more food and decided to not have puddings, so come the paying of the bill. As previously stated they had removed the beef bourguignon off the bill but the additional charges were shocking! They had decided to charge us for the drizzle of olive oil even though we were told it came with, they charged us £1.50 for an additional slice of bread but put it on bill as roll and butter ( it was 1 slice of bread), and even though I had been told the burger of the day was pork, Stilton, bacon and mushroom I was charged £1.25 for each additional item above the plain burger, so an already £16 burger became £19.75. When questioned about these additionals and explaining this wasnt what we were told, we were told with the addition of huffs and sideways looks that these items were additional and the weren't included in basic price. We had no option but to pay they but I can safely state that no one from our party will ever return to this place for food and I will never recommend food from here to anyone. Our part of the bill came to just over £80 and I can honestly say my money would of been better spent at mcdonalds, at least there you can get what you order for the price stated without the foul attitude from staff. I highly recommend you never go...

Went into the pub hoping to have some dinner, the tables were all booked up which is not a problem, so we left to get food from McDonalds. My friend didn’t finish her drink from the McDonalds, so decided to take it with her in my car and into the pub garden. Bear in mind I went inside and ordered two drinks as well, gave the business MY money. A man who I can only guess is the manager is collecting the glasses in front of us and comes marching over raising his voice in front of all the other people in the pub garden, about how it’s rude to bring “drinks from McDonalds into another business”. This seems pathetic to me seeing as it’s half of a cup of coke AND I had already bought multiple drinks from them alongside. I understand how it may look but again I am a frequent customer and had multiple glasses of drinks from their pub around us. After some dispute, the man quite literally told us to get out and kicked us out of the pub. As mentioned, my friend didn’t finish her drink and decided to take it with her. The reason being, she suffers from low blood sugar therefore decided to hold onto the drink for the car ride and whilst waiting for our pub drinks to arrive. Hence to the business of the pub we didn’t know how long it would take to be served, hence her holding onto the drink. To top it all off when we were leaving (by force) he went up to the other tables, pointing at us and having a laugh with the other customers about us. The disrespect and pure vile behaviour of this man is disgusting. To raise his voice at two young girls for a McDonalds cup when we had multiple glasses of finished drinks from them next to us, and plus humiliate us in front of all the other customers is unacceptable, without even knowing or bothering to ask the reason as to why the McDonalds cup. Instead, raised a scene in front of everyone and kicked us out with no respect. One more thing, my personal glass straw was in one of the glasses that he snatched off the table and didn’t even give me a chance to get it back. Didn’t bother listening to what we were saying, kept shouting over us and telling us to get out. I was a frequent customer of the pub, safe to say I will not...

Don't think I've ever experienced such inattentive service. The waitress who 'showed' us to our table vaguely waved towards one. We were left so long to decide what we wanted that I honestly thought we were supposed to order at the bar. Starters were great! Go for the cured meats or the whitebait. Main courses arrived on the table the very moment we finished our starters. Apparently the burger was the worst ever, very dry and the salads were dressed with oil, just oil. Nasty. Empty glasses not taken away. Left so long at the end of the meal that we decided against dessert and had to go to the bar to pay rather than waiting even longer at the table. No - they weren't busy as there was only one other table dining. We did say goodbye but only got a response from a couple of customers in the bar - the two young ladies behind the bar probably think we're still there as they couldn't be bothered to turn around from looking at their phones, stood with their backs to us. For probably the first time ever we didn't leave a tip.

It's probably alright if you're out for a walk and want some chips or something quick but for an evening meal there's just so many other places around that are a million times better.

Two stars for the decent starters and beer selection.

Should lose a million stars for the condiments...
