Wow what a find ! I am a real food fan, conjuring up many delights when I have the opportunity at home, like Drambuie Spiced Orange Pork Loin, but, when living out on the road though in a truck, with only a single gas burner, tramping across Europe, a cup of soup, no matter how you dress it up...is still a cup of soup ! Once in a while, like tonight, I venture out for a stroll in search of somewhere exceptional, somewhere, possibly to return in future with Mrs C-D, I don't like her to miss out too much, despite though it being easier on my wallet on my own ! I must say, I found the perfect place here at The Queens Head, simply gorgeous food, Rib Eye Steak on the Black Rock Grill, Sizzling away was to die for, Garlic Mushrooms in a Garlic Creamy Sauce...Amazing, Locals were friendly and we shared a some banter, I liked it so much that I've booked to come back on the 26th May as it's Mrs C-D's birthday, well done to all those involved, from this odd man in the layby at the top of the road, that really appreciates good food...Thank you, this is what local businesses are about, exceptionally great food and service, see yous on...
Read moreSo I found this hidden gem by complete chance… me and my cousin who haven’t seen each other for a few years decided to meet up in Andover to catch up. We planned to have dinner at a nice steakhouse but couldn’t find one centrally. We took the plunge to travel a little further out and boy was it worth it! Black Rock Menu was delicious, we both had the rump 10oz, I went for the port and stilton sauce which was incredible!
Atmosphere was decent, food was great and the young service team were really polite and attentive. Some of the more senior members came across a little cold but I guess 30+ years in service does that to you. Small issue with paying as we were initially overcharged but was quickly rectified as it was a genuine mistake.
To top this experience off, we went for a nice walk afterwords which we found at the end of the road. picturesque views, horses and alpacas on the way, it truly was a great experience. If I happen to be in the area again, I will definitely...
Read moreGreat food with good portions. I would question the need to have Yorkshire pud roast potatoes and mashed potatoes on the same plate. Mash is superfluous in that mix. To get it up to 5 stars, gravy although great, should be in a jug so that you can dispense as needed. The vegetables need to be relooked at. The creamy leeks were great, cauliflower bake also great. The frozen carrots a definite no-no. Perhaps smaller portions of vegetables would be fine. Roast potatoes were very average. Lamb shank was very good but the pork roast was dry. Perhaps try using a different cut of pork, pork belly is better suited to Sunday Lunch as its less likely to dry out at can be...
