We all know that we either leave a review because of a great experience or a poor one. Unfortunately it’s the latter.
We immediately go up to the bar and the gentleman working - avoids us, not a great start. I’ve never been here before, for context, but I’ve worked in a restaurant and I am already seeing red flags within the first minute.
Now to the worst part of the experience, the lady on the bar in the striped black and white jumper. She couldn't be more rude if she tried, we run through our order of nearly £100 having to deal with sly comments and a clear lust to disrespect us, you could see it in her watery beady eyes that for some reason we have either offended her, or something has happened prior to shiver her timbers. Sure maybe we stumbled on our words a couple of times but there is never a reason to rush someone with an order and especially to be rude to a customer who is spending money and time at your establishment. “Does this discount work here” my aunt asked, “this has never been a beefeater” the beady eyed woman interjected. This was the last of the comments she made, we paid and I sat down in a foul mood.
However, to give her the benefit of the doubt, maybe she woke up to some bad news and took it out on a random family of four, in which case, you shouldn’t have come into work today.
To make matters worse, after 15 minutes she eventually brings the caddy over, you could see her avoiding eye contact as if her life depended on it, I’d be honest if I had any idea where this hostility has come from, all I can suggest is perhaps she didn’t like the look of us. Five minutes later I see a man walk in with ingredients clearly for our meal, and I sit there anticipating a lovely cod and chips featuring a side of phlegm.
This is a very pessimistic review as you can tell but it gets worse, one of the snappy replies she had to us was when we asked if the gravy came with a little pot, she said “of course it does”. It didn’t actually. Our cousin who is very particular wasn’t happy, yet we move on.
Now we get prepared for the food: the chips were IMMEDIATELY cold, but the rest of the food was...
Read moreThis is a great pub and restaurant, you get what you’d expect! We went on a Friday evening around 6:30pm and it was packed at the bar, the restaurant was quite busy but still seats available. I’d highly recommend booking in advance.
You had the option to order via scanning the QR or the waiter does come over and ask if you’d like to order with them. The food came out really fast and it was so hot. The chicken wings were really crispy and juicy, I’d highly recommend getting them as a starter. For the main I had the mac and cheese with beef short rib. The mac and cheese was just your standard pub mac and cheese, would have been nice to have some crispy cheese on top and then the beef short rib on top of that. The beef was cooked perfectly, really tender and fell off the bone. I’d go back just for the beef short rib.
All of the staff are really friendly and very welcoming, it’s lovely seeing them interact with everyone individually. The only issue we had which isn’t a big deal at the end of the day. We booked the table from 6:30pm -9pm, this was the option we chose online when booking. We wanted to have our dinner and enjoy some drinks after at the table as we aren’t keen on standing around a really busy bar shoulder to shoulder with people. The food came out so quickly we had finished eating around 7:15pm, we ordered another drink and was enjoying our time, but at 7:30pm the manager came over and put a reservation sign down saying “Don’t rush you’ve got time, they’re not coming until 8pm”. To my surprise they’d already booked the table during our own reservation time. We felt a bit pushed out and rushed as we wanted to chill out and enjoy the evening to ourselves at the table. We left just before 8 but felt a bit deflated after having a great experience with the food but being rushed off. I understand it was busy so they’re trying to fit in as many tables as possible, but we had booked the table for the set time and it was disappointing to pushed out like that, if they tend to be busy on weekends then they should have restricted booked times to...
Read moreI've visited the Queen's Head several times and I can say that it is a prime place to enjoy a lunchtime meal or evening out. It is an excellent pub restaurant, and good value for money (especially when you take advantage of the lunchtime or evening set menu or the many offers that are available) with high quality food and excellent, attentive kitchen, waiting and bar staff. Last night (19 March 2025), I ordered prawns for the starter and sirloin steak for the main course. I asked for the steak to be cooked 'medium/rare, closer to rare than medium', and that's exactly how it was cooked, absolutely perfect. Also, the chef had 'rested' the steak before putting it on my plate, which meant that no blood-like juices ran on my plate (the places I've been to where the so-called chef doesn't know how essential that is!); and the steak was still hot when served to me. Great attention to detail and all the hallmarks of an excellent chef, who I later learned was Brett. Thank you Brett for a wonderful dinner. I had the tiramisu for pudding, which was a creamy indulgence, but of course very delicious and it ended the evening perfectly! The waitress who served me was Scarlett and she was brilliant, taking my order without writing anything down, including an extra side order and she had perfectly remembered everything I had asked for. When Scarlett was serving other tables, she also noticed when my empty plates etc needed to be taken from my table and removed them without delay. Anthony and Jade were likewise excellent hosts and also made me feel very welcome. The managers and kitchen, waiting and bar staff are all very friendly and helpful and they all make every visit very enjoyable. They also make the atmosphere at the Queen's Head very jolly and a welcoming...
