7yrs ago is a fair amount of time and the latest refurb is as good an excuse as any for a return visit. I was pleasantly surprised with the tasteful redecoration and the pleasant staff the dining room had been busy and reserved tables where still waiting customers to arrive when I entered on an afternoon. The drinks available are the usual you'll find at these types of venues though it was nice to see they had cask beers, unfortunately my favourite tipple the mild has gone the way of many of the older drinks and can't be found in the pub's of today. I was taken aback by the friendliness of customers, one person coming out of their way to ask me for a game of pool unfortunately I had to decline as I don't play cue games. The waiting staff are very young but what an improvement on the team from 7yrs ago the French guy appears to have gone hopefully deported back to wherever. This time talk to each other and everyone knows what is happening this is great teamwork and it's nice to see young people stepping up and running the show. The food appears reasonably priced and customers that had eaten appeared to have enjoyed the experience. I'll be going back and I'll be eating but whatever view you had of the railway it's worth a revisit. Dashed in for a quick bite omg what goes on here I've no Idea but it's like hell on earth. A chatty French guy took our order after telling us our 1st & 2nd choices were off we got a burger hardly any salad, cold fries we couldn't take a mouthful without the french guy coming over to talk let's hope brexit stops anymore like him coming over. The drinks where OK especially the free ones but the locals shouting in the bar isn't conducive for an convivial meal. Shan't be going again I'd prefer to...
Read moreWe walked in to the pub to be greeted by a party of 15 people, me and my girlfriend were pushed in the back by a couple of diners for being in the way of the surprise party, when no one had told us about this over the phone or upon entry, we were then thrown in the corner of the pub to be left waiting 30 mins for menus, we then waited for drinks orders to which 2 coffees arrived 10 mins before the other cold drinks. Upon our food order being taken we weren’t asked of any allergy’s and we ordered steak and ale pie and the stack burger. We had asked for mash instead of chips and the waiter seemed to take a long time to put this through on the iPad ( he then told us he wasn’t trained on it and had no idea what he was doing) no food read back was given after order. The food then arrived- huge pie which was lovely and a nicely presented burger, however we received mushy peas when the menu stated peas and my girlfriends is allergic to these ! I’m guessing the waiter had put through mushy peas rather than mash (somehow) I then asked for this to amended to which I received a shrug of the shoulders. The pie also arrived with no gravy (no gravy on pie!) I asked for gravy and other condiments which then took 10 mins to arrive at which point we had basically finished our meals, chips were cold and soggy and coleslaw had clearly been left under light for a long time. As we left we spotted a couple of kitchen staff drinking GLASS j20 bottles in the kitchen, very dangerous. Overall disappointing and we seemed to be neglected in the...
Read moreWent to The Railway Inn to celebrate a relatives birthday. There were 11 of us. Two of the party ordered rump steaks, one cooked medium and the other rare. Another of the party ordered a sirloin cooked medium. What we received was two rumps cooked medium and a rare sirloin! We sent back one of the medium rumps and asked for a replacement cooked rare as originally requested. By this time everyone had received their food and started eating. The chef then came out of the kitchen with a small piece of cut up steak on a plate and asked "is this steak rare?" The lighting was low and I replied "yes it looks it" and he mocked "well, this is the steak you just sent back" We took the plate and put it under the light and it was clearly medium, not rare and the whole table said "that is not rare!" We were all shocked that the chef had the arrogance to confront a customer in front of the whole party and other dining patrons because he had been challenged on how he had cooked a steak. We asked to speak to the manager about his unprofessional behaviour and were told he was the manager!! We did get a rare rump in the end, but needless to say we will not be returning as it spoilt the evening and his behaviour left me humiliated just because I did not get what I ordered. One star is for the staff who served us who were professional...
