We have driven past this inviting pub several times but finally decided to book for Sunday lunch. Although parking was a bit difficult with several vans a and large SUVs taking up quite a lot of space we managed to find somewhere to put the car. The welcome was warm and friendly and the whole place was beautifully decorated for Christmas. It was obviously a very popular pub and many of the tables were occupied by families and parties. We were served quickly and efficiently and the roast beef dinners were excellent. Perfectly cooked beef and loads of well prepared vegetables as well as light and tasty Yorkshire puddings made a memorable meal. Our only problem was that there was so much we could not clear our plates and had no room for pudding. A lovely pub and a great restaurant. It is easy to recommend that you should not drive past this place but make sure you book to avoid disappointment.

We booked the Red Lion for Sunday lunch on Mother’s Day, and the pub was nice and busy with a good vibe. I opted for the 3 course Sunday lunch for £20, which was a great value option. I think the starter (cauliflower) and desert (bread and butter pudding) were the highlights. The roast beef was decent, and I polished it all off with no real complaints. You’ll find better roasts for sure, but you’ll also find much worse! 4 stars is a great score - and well worth each one of those stars!

Been here a few times in the last few weeks and in this time I've had fish & chips, a roast and a chicken burger. All of those dishes were very nice but the true standout is the garlic mushroom starter. Something about it is just spectacular... Prices on food and drink are all very reasonable. We took advantage of the £20 for three courses (including Sunday roast) on a Sunday and I think that is great value. Beer garden is nice too.

My recent visit to this pub left much to be desired, primarily due to the disappointing service experience I encountered. Upon arrival, I found no signage indicating whether to wait to be seated or to take a seat at an empty table. After seating myself, I waited for 15 minutes before being informed by a waiter that the table was reserved, despite no signage indicating so.

Relocating to another table, I waited an additional 30 minutes without any acknowledgment or service. Observing others who arrived after me being promptly served, I approached the bar to inquire about receiving a menu and possibility to make an order. It was then that the waiter questioned whether I had informed anyone of my arrival, to which I explained that he himself had asked me to move tables earlier so he was aware I was a customer who needs attention.

Furthermore, I was informed of a policy requiring guests to wait to be seated, although this was not communicated upon entry. Furthermore, the lack of basic manners and rude behaviour exhibited by the server only added to the frustration of the experience. Despite the satisfactory quality of the cuisine, the absence of hospitality and professionalism tainted what could have been an enjoyable experience. As a result, I left feeling disappointed and...

Greeted at the restaurant and rooms reception by a friendly hostess who confirmed our room reservation. A walk through the bar area led to the stairs accessing the rooms. Quaintly creaky stairs, well carpeted, steepish and narrow as befitting a fine building of a certain age. The room was clean and fresh with tea and coffee facilities. A snug ensuite was perfectly adequate. To watch TV you needed to perch on the bed, not worth it though as ours had a very moody reception. The info folder in the room was generally helpful and had WiFi login details. We had booked a table for dinner as we checked in, the place was already filling up. A good sign. The menu from the room info pack proved to be out of date and both choices were quickly changed. I can recommend the homemade steak and ale pie, truly delicious. A good choice of wines and beers made for a very relaxing evening. I would recommend a short stay here rather than a larger franchise hotel. Only downside was no breakfast available. Tip, have desert to pre-fill the...

We were staying at Standlake and wanted to find a great local pub with good food and of course drinks. Following a little research I found this little gem!||Hubby had popped by in the afternoon to decide if it was walkable (it was), the manager instantly recognised hubby with a lovely welcome.||We had a really good meal, starters were lovely, I had the duck main which was full of flavour), I'm not a parsnip lover (they were lovely!). Hubby had the pork which he raved about.||||For pud I had the chocolate fondant YUM! Hubby had the rhubarb option - again enjoyed.||||Portion sizes were good - we couldn't have eaten or drunk any more. Prices for the food we were served were very fair.||||If/when we come back to Standlake we will be going back - if this was our local pub we would be regulars.||||One last thing there was no music playing which we hadn't realised until the latter part of the evening - shows you how good the pub is --- thanks again for a...
