My recent visit to this pub left much to be desired, primarily due to the disappointing service experience I encountered. Upon arrival, I found no signage indicating whether to wait to be seated or to take a seat at an empty table. After seating myself, I waited for 15 minutes before being informed by a waiter that the table was reserved, despite no signage indicating so.
Relocating to another table, I waited an additional 30 minutes without any acknowledgment or service. Observing others who arrived after me being promptly served, I approached the bar to inquire about receiving a menu and possibility to make an order. It was then that the waiter questioned whether I had informed anyone of my arrival, to which I explained that he himself had asked me to move tables earlier so he was aware I was a customer who needs attention.
Furthermore, I was informed of a policy requiring guests to wait to be seated, although this was not communicated upon entry. Furthermore, the lack of basic manners and rude behaviour exhibited by the server only added to the frustration of the experience. Despite the satisfactory quality of the cuisine, the absence of hospitality and professionalism tainted what could have been an enjoyable experience. As a result, I left feeling disappointed and...
Read moreGreeted at the restaurant and rooms reception by a friendly hostess who confirmed our room reservation. A walk through the bar area led to the stairs accessing the rooms. Quaintly creaky stairs, well carpeted, steepish and narrow as befitting a fine building of a certain age. The room was clean and fresh with tea and coffee facilities. A snug ensuite was perfectly adequate. To watch TV you needed to perch on the bed, not worth it though as ours had a very moody reception. The info folder in the room was generally helpful and had WiFi login details. We had booked a table for dinner as we checked in, the place was already filling up. A good sign. The menu from the room info pack proved to be out of date and both choices were quickly changed. I can recommend the homemade steak and ale pie, truly delicious. A good choice of wines and beers made for a very relaxing evening. I would recommend a short stay here rather than a larger franchise hotel. Only downside was no breakfast available. Tip, have desert to pre-fill the...
Read moreWe were staying at Standlake and wanted to find a great local pub with good food and of course drinks. Following a little research I found this little gem!||Hubby had popped by in the afternoon to decide if it was walkable (it was), the manager instantly recognised hubby with a lovely welcome.||We had a really good meal, starters were lovely, I had the duck main which was full of flavour), I'm not a parsnip lover (they were lovely!). Hubby had the pork which he raved about.||||For pud I had the chocolate fondant YUM! Hubby had the rhubarb option - again enjoyed.||||Portion sizes were good - we couldn't have eaten or drunk any more. Prices for the food we were served were very fair.||||If/when we come back to Standlake we will be going back - if this was our local pub we would be regulars.||||One last thing there was no music playing which we hadn't realised until the latter part of the evening - shows you how good the pub is --- thanks again for a...
