Currently the Inn has one room at back and two at the front. I stayed in one at the front which faces the main road. There is no double glazing as this is an old timber beamed house. Consequently, there was a high level of noise from passing traffic. I was woken by traffic at 6am rather than at 7.30 as preferred. The central heating in the room was a bit erratic but I was supplied with a fan heater which kept me warm. The room lacked a hairdryer so I had to ask for one. There were no hangers for trousers. Tea and coffee making supplies were basic - no biscuits or complementary water. On the plus side - nice large bath towels. On both mornings I had to ask for a plate for my toast. More attention needs to be paid to details. |The breakfast was good but no fresh fruit. |The restaurant menu contains plain English dishes ( except the excellent chicken kebabs) and is dominated by meat - no vegetarian or vegan dishes and one fish choice which comes...

   Read moreWe stopped in the town for a walking weekend, we tried a few places to eat. |On the third night we went to The Oak at the top of the town. Martin who seemed to look after the cellar and do most of the cooking provided us with a great pint and simple good pub grub. |After half an hour or so, the locals and their dogs descended on the bar, it was wet outside, the owner, a lady called Sue, allowed the soggy dogs all over the furniture including her golden retriever. |Even when more people came into the bar, the dogs were not removed. One was sat on the chair next to us. When we tried to get the dog off the chair Sue laughed as she looked. |This is not a dig at what was provided at the pub, dirty dogs on the furniture!!!|We have our own dogs, in a place that you pay to eat and drink you should not have paws that have walked over the pavements of the town on the chairs...
