Dreadful Experience. Avoid This Pub !!! The wife and I was staying in Belford for a short break and thought we would pop into The Salmon Inn one evening What a mistake !!! We had already read some less than favorable reviews however, we thought we make up our own mind. The bar area was like The Slaughtered Lamb in The American Werewolf In London, A large group of locals sat in the middle of the pub all stopped what they were doing and turned to face us as we entered. Unperturbed, we bought some drinks and took a seat. The next 30 mins we sat listening to a barrage of loud conversation liberally peppered with swear words. We aren't prudes but this was every other word. The group was spread out across the pub so if we or anyone else wanted to enter the lounge to get away from the rabble it would have been impossible. Occasionally the lady behind the bar would admonish the group for their language but this was done weakly and with no affect as the lady was taking part in their conversation. The final straw occurred when again after a loud swearing episode took place, the barmaid shouted "Mind your language, we have other customers" for one of the group to reply to her "F* Them" which was greeted with much laughter by the group and the bar staff, leaving my wife and I feeling incredibly uncomfortable and unwelcome. We quickly finished our drinks and left, never to return. Do yourself a favour, give The Salmon Inn a wide berth and walk up to The Black Swan 100 yards away, you'll get a much...
Read moreAfter some more recent positive reviews decided to give The Salmon a try so called to book a table for 19:00, Staff asked if we could come sooner as sounded like they were busy (good sign?) so obliged and changed our plans to accommodate. On arrival was obviously not busy and atmosphere very 'local' with the odd outburst of choice language....didn't bother us too much. Ordered a beer (decent) and a tonic water which was definitely not decent and tasted like fairy liquid, clearly dispensed from hose tap, mixture of lemonade and soda water. Asked for replacement and was made to feel uncomfortable and fobbed-off with various excuses (slimline etc.) instead of an apology. Food was either pizzas or burgers which were OK and good value for money - burger £8. But if you fancy something else - don't bother, unless you want a large portion of gammon coming from the front bar!!! Popped in the Black Swan later and wished we'd booked...
