To lose one, negative, review, might be considered 'unfortunate'. To lose the second- which elicited a response fom "the owner" and that recieved a 'like', seems .... odd. And this time "the owner" cannot claim that I never posted it.
OK; one last go. First, I put 'owner' in because Your reply is headed "Response from the owner", but your title is different. Second; Who am I? Well a google search on a very unusual name will show that I am a psychotherapist, specialising in relationships, the founder of a charity to help children and the founder of a training institute to train other therapists.Not the profile of an obsessive trol. Secondly, you seem to quickly forget your own previous attacks. I visited on 19 June and ordered a 10oz gammon steak, and was served a 3mm thick slice of roast gammon that had been heated in a griddle pan. It was the same size and shape as the ham served to my wife with her ham egg and chips. As we had already waited a long time for our meal, I chose not to return it but wrote a revies that evening saying that serving a slice of ham in place of a 10oz steak was hardly likely to be a mistake. I viewed the review on the Sunday to see if there was a response; there was not. I went to look again on the Monday and the review had gone. I placed a short observation that that was 'odd'. Please do not repeat the false claim that revies cannot be removed. My sister worked for a failing company that regularly removed negative reiews. In your reply to that you implied that I am a liar by stating that the chef and the waitress would know the difference between a gammon steak and a slice of ham, so my complaint can't be genuine; to which my response was "that is my point, that was not an accident or a misunderstanding". Oh, then that response disapears too; hence my comment that once might be unfortunute etc; I am sorry that you did not recognise the reference to "The Importance of being Ernest" by Oscar Wilde. I had hoped to receive an apology, having beeen a regular customer, but it has not been forthcoming. So, unsurprisingly, the simple solution, fo me, is another pub with a nice view and good food. What you choose to do with feedback that might prevent some individual members of you staff failing to meet the requirements of consumer legislation,...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreBeen here probably 6/7 times over the last few years as we visit Clevedon fairly regularly. Always a good level of service and decent food for the price. Think good choice of pub food staples and a few good specials. Venue is well used and has that ālived inā look, but hey itās a seaside pub with decent food not the bloody Ivy. Solid 7.5/10 for the food/service/cost. 6.5/10 for the decor but easily an 8/10 for both with a little work. šš»šš»
Update 2025: returned here during the weekend of the Clevedon Flower Show and ate on the upper terrace. Food was as good as usual and both of my kids enjoyed the monsterous Korean chicken burger and chunky fries! My wife had the traditional battered fish and chips which was well cooked and delightfully crispy with some chunky fries and homemade tartar sauce and my Gammon was well cooked with a nice egg, fries and onion rings. Service was prompt and staff were polite, knowledgeable and helpful. Whole venue was busy but not manically so but again, although the food was good the presentation, whilst adequate always seems maybe a little rushed, which is a shame, because just a few tweaks could make all the difference I feel. I know that is maybe not the vibe that The Salthouse is trying to necessarily push, but small things can add together to make a big difference to the overall . The terrace BBQ was going and smelt wonderful blowing across the carpark and field approaching the venue which is a massive draw for prospective visitors and I just feel that The Salthouse could easily be so much better with very little effort as the interior is clean and pleasant enough if a little tired in places.
All in all, we had a great meal, in a great place with a great view and definitely happy to return again and hopefully will be pleasantly surprised.
At just under £100 for dinner for a family of four, The Salthouse offers fairly decent value for...
Ā Ā Ā Read more(Previous review) Disappointing. After going here last year thought it was nice, this time we were told we couldnāt eat on the grass whilst someone else was eating their meals there. Took and hour to get a baguette and ham, egg and chips. Rubbish customer service. Only nice bit is the view!
(Response from the owner) 3 hours ago Hi Shona, Unfortunately we are not allowed by law to serve food on the grass. You ordered food at a table and then disappeared down to the garden below and no one could find you hence the delays in getting your food to you. People who order a take away or food from the BBQ can take their food onto the grass but health and safety laws do not allow it to be served there. Sorry that we were unable to meet your expectations on this occasion. Regards, Tina
Hi Tina,
Just to clarify as I dined with Shona Penney on this parcticular date also;
We did not order food at a table and then disappear down to the garden. We ordered food at a table near the railings and waited over a hour for our meals which consisted of 2x ham egg and chips, and 1x pork and stuffing baguette. Whilst waiting we never moved from this table, so I have no idea where you got your information from. We mentioned the long wait to a member of staff who was then particularly rude to us.
We were told as we were waiting for a table that food was not to be served on the grass area which is fine. We then noticed that you had served two ladies with two children down on the grass food and drinks (not takeaway as these were on China plates) This seems to be one rule for one and one for another?
I would not normally leave a bad review but have felt no choice as you have lied.
I look forward to hearing your response.
Kind...
