Read moreIt’s free, fun and cold. Very popular for the surf jacket crew me included. Change at the wider end where there are numerous perches and leave your sacrificial kit although I’ve not had anything taken in 4yrs.
Swimming is closer to the wash over wall and other pursuits like SUP or kayak are more mid line to the lake.
It’s super salty so very buoyant. Recommend a swim cap or even a thermal cap if you’re doing crawl but for breakstroke with head above the water it’s fine all year round. It’s when you dip your head that the heat dissipates and then your hand and feet can go numb/weak so a cap helps and decathlon sell a cheap open water type for c. £20 in orange which also covers you for safety.
No lifeguards as it’s a public free space but I’ve not seen or heard of any issues.
If it’s too cold for you that will be obvious when you use the steps to get in either at the deep or shallow end (standing).
There is an open shower to the right as you approach the cafe stall near the shallow end but only one and a small pump water outlet for your kit of legs also directly at the shallow end.
Lots of smiles and positive people, need...
Read moreI've actually done a fair bit of paddle boarding here. Over the last six weeks to the 15th August. And it's quite a scenic place overlooking the coastline of the Bristol Channel and I have actually stood up on the paddle board for - almost - 9 seconds. The one thing that has limited me, there is space. ( And the myriad of crabs who don't like bare feet on the floor of the lake ) On good days you can see Cardiff and Newport - quite clearly from the Marine lake at Clevedon. Several bus services do run fairly close to the lake. The X5, X6 and X7 have stops not far from it. All of these run from Bristol. As do a number of local bus services as well.
The biggest threat to a place like this. Is the actual loss of the bus services. The biggest loss will be the X5. The two others are under no direct threat of being rescinded. Though undoubtedly other local bus services might be just...
